Yes it is really corned. But you may not know what corned means - it means it has been soaked in a brine to make in very tender. Corned beef is made from brisket which is usually a very tough cut of meet until it is treated in some way.

Yes it is. I received a recipe from a magazine I subscribed to that told me how to corn beef so I did as it said. It only takes about 2 days to corn beef. I placed the beef brisket in a plastic tupperware container with a lid, rubbed in the seasonings, poured the salt brine over it, weighed it down with a plate and refrigerated it for about 1 1/2 days, turning once. It is very good - home-made is much much better than store-bought corned beef. Not many people know how absolutely easy it is to make. The corning makes the meat turn red when you cook it, otherwise it would just look like a roast when you cooked it. I never boil my corned beef - I bake it in the oven.

No, it's just a name for the method of preservation.

Fresh beef brisket is trimmed, and then injected with a special “corning” solution (also called pickling brine) before it is cooked. You can actually do corning on any kind of meat including venison (included below). I have no idea what language the word is from, but it has nothing to do with corn.

corned beef is beef that has been soaked in a brine for an extended period of time, (under refrigeration). It make a great St. Patty's Day feast boiled with cabbage and slapped on rye bread with mayo, mustard and swiss cheese. I think they have the recipe on www.all-about-meat.com
