okay, so my family and I always go to this reenactment thing EVERY year... But this year the volleyball season has switched to fall and is going to interfere with a volleyball tourny.
Now I am pretty much a bench warmer, but this is a home tournament, the only one we host this season, and I have next year on varsity (I am on varsity this year) and i am afraid that my coach will remember me not coming to our home tourny this year and bench me all next season. Now I KNOW I will be starter next year because I will be the only Senior setter.. please tell me if I should go to the v-ball tourny or the reenactment with my family...

there are two other setters, She usually only plays me if we are definitely going to win, otherwise I dont even play 1/4 of the time
I have gone to this thing about 4 or more times, but it is only one weekend a year. Once i get out of high school I probably wont be going anymore and I only have one more year. volleyball is fun and somewhat important to me, but I dont feel like a valuable teammate, mostly because of my coach.

ok well i am the varsity setter at my school and i know how important it is to be at tourney's and stuff. but all i have to say is Family should come first. volleyball is just a game. but family is forever. now if u go every year to this re-enactmeant thing then why stop now. they have others setters. so go and enjoy the day with ur family!!!

My short answer would be: please stay with your team.
I agree that family should always take the highest priority, but volleyball is part of those sports activity in which anything could happen in a blink.
Let's assume that you have two other setters on your team when you are away, one had a stomach flu and the other sprained ankle... whom can your coach play... would you be the first one to be called upon although you called yourself a bench warmer? If your answer is yes, then you might have to stay with the team; if your answer is "no, we have four other setters who are better than me", then go with your family.
It is a good idea that you should talk to your coach about your dedication, and ask any question as you would like to, you would probably receive a response like "you can make your own decision... don't worry too much about us"... but at the end of the day, your only decision would still be: stay with the team.
Hope it helps... maybe it is just me, as volleyball is part of my life.

I agree with most of the answers above me. You made a commitment to the team and you should keep it. And you are correct about the coach remembering next season. You do not feel like you are really part of the team now. You will really not feel like part of the team after missing the tournament.
I also agree with the answer of Dan_Ye. What happens if one or both of the setters in front of you get hurt? Or they go to the reenactment? Or anything else? You will be letting the entire team down.
Explain to your family. Even invite them to the tournament.

Talk to your coach. Explain this is a long standing family commitment you have. Let the coach know this will be the only time you miss. Explain this won't be happening next year when you are a bigger contributer.
I know volleyball is important, but your family should always come first. Your coach should understand, if he/she doesn't then you have bigger issues then you realize.
You need to communicate with the coaching staff, not just on this issue, but all issues you have. Communication is the key to success in life. Get used to it.

Even though you committed yourself to your volleyball team the day you were chosen to be on the team, i think family should come first. If you talk to your coach about it, he/she might understand that it is a family situation. I'm sure your team would at least have 1 more setter so it would be ok for you to go to your family thing. Like i said; family should come first.
I hope that helps.

You should sit down with your parents and talk this out.I think you know in your heart what you are going to do,so I am going to sound like a bit of a jerk but the best advise is to tell you to be a leader you don't need anyone to tell you its ok just do what you fell you need to do.You will find this problem more and more as you get older everyone sacrifices some more than others. You will find that people that love you will understand, the others you are better off without.

Your family should come first. Talk with your coach and see how they TRULY feel. And ask them to be honest. Being a former volleyball coach there were many times where I had to understand.

You could invite your entire family to your Volleyball tournament so they can watch you play and perform your best Volleyball ever. You should never ever be ashamed and embarrassed of your family.

You already have been to the reenactment (do you mean a renassance festival?)
You need to be with your teammates to support them at the tournament.
I know you want to be with your parents, but they will understand. Also renassance festivals are more than one weekend.
Be a team player.
