Ok. Don't buy off ebay. Do u have a friend who knows about guitars? Go to ur local shop and take him/her with u.If no friend, u'll have to rely on the assistants. I assume u want electric, so u'll have to buy an amp as well. Fender and Peavey do good packages here in the UK ,so I assume they're available across the Pond. Look in ur price range, find 1 u like the look of. Get ur friend/the assistant to play it and demonstrate the features on both guitar & amp. Hold the guitar urself and feel the weight. Try to push the strings down to play notes or chords. Can you make the notes easily enough? Do u like the sound, the feel the look of it? If so, that's the one for u. It may be that there is a guitar/amp package that is not a famous name but hits all the right buttons.Lastly. what warranty is offered? Hope this helps

well.. you will want a guitar with humbucking pickups.. so..

Epiphone Les Paul Studio
B.C. Rich Metal Master Kerry King V
Dean V
Dean ML
B.C. Rich Metal Master Warlock
B.C. Rich Avenge SOB

go to your nearest Guitar Center, as they offer nice little discounts when you pay a decent amount, and they have probably the widest selection of guitars i have ever seen. play all the guitars through the same amplifier on the same settings and see which one ya like the best. have fun, good luck, and rock on!

LTD guitars are very good. They have some V guitars. EMG pickups are good for metal-type music, they have very good distortion. I'm not sure how much they cost though. If you're just starting, I recommend buying a cheap guitar for now, and then save up for a better one later.

My son just got an excellent guitar on ebay. Its an Ibanez SZ520QM with dual humbuckers and a set neck for your kind of music. $310 with shipping.

Here is a similar one:

If he wants a different guitar, he can sell this for about what he paid for it. If you buy new, you will lose money.

Have you heard of the ESP F50? It goes for 219$ at Sam Ash, and it was built for metal and hard rock.

Here's a link:

Go to the bottom of the page.

This might be what you want.
