You can, but it'd be incredibly stupid!

Why?

You don't know how you will respond.

You don't know how much to take.

You have a limited supply and antidepressants are something you do for six months or longer. So, you don't have adequate supply and stopping cold turkey can be a very bad experience.

Your gp would probably prescribe you what you need, anyway. Besides, if you have situational depression, therapy is a better solution - and it doesn't come with side effects, the most common of which is sexual dysfunction.

Lexapro has some side effects. Of those side effects, rarely does anyone experience them. Here is a breakdown of the medication. As always, it is not a good idea to take Meds without a DR. prescription.

Lexapro can be taken every day along with most other medicines.
Lexapro is well tolerated. Most of the side effects experienced by people taking Lexapro are mild to moderate and go away with continued treatment.
The most common adverse events reported in clinical trials were nausea, insomnia, ejaculation disorder, somnolence, increased sweating, fatigue, anorgasmia and decreased libido.

I would advise not to take this med without your DR. writing a prescription. You will get it if you ask, but be evaluated by an MD first. There is almost no addiction, so it will not be regulated. It has shown some mental capacity for addiction, but no physical side effects.

It takes about 6-8 weeks for 60% to notice a change in anxitey probelms, and another 10-12 weeks for major depression probelms. This also depends on dose.

Dont take it. I dont know the amount you have, but it will not help you unless you are on it for at least 2 months. It has no addiction (in other words, no buzz factor) so there is no point in taking it.

Go to your DR. and he can prescribe a good Med that can help you...fast.

Good luck.

You are bent on trying those pills aren't you? You have posted 2 questions about them. Look up the warnings (general and specific) for "lexapro" by typing that word in quotes into Yahoo! web search. A number of links comes up but the NIH link gives a good summary of warnings. YOU SHOULD NEVER TAKE A PILL PRESCRIBED FOR ANOTHER PERSON! Lexapro is an SSRI and takes about 1-4 weeks for its effects to be noticed so you would need that many pills to do any good.

If you want to elevate your mood in a safe way there was a blurb on YAHOO! HEALTH today about 7 tips to elevate your mood. It gave a link to a Dr. who had suggested these tips: www.askdrmao.com.

Good luck in overcoming your depression, good health, peace and love!

I wouldn't. You should never take someone elses prescribed medication, especially anti-depressants. Each case of depression is different and your might be in need of a completely different kind of anti-depressant than your ex-wife's. Also, if you're taking any kind of meds, the lexapro might interact with it. It's best if you see your Doctor and let him/her prescribe what you need. Take care.

it takes a few weeks for these drugs to get into your system, lexapro is an antipsychotic, used mainy to treat schizophrenia, it can also be used to treat depression, sleep and other things... if you start taking these and stop suddenly, it can lead to hallucinations, sweats, sickness, and other withdrawel symptoms.,.. i would not advise taking them.. i you are truely that depressed, make an appointment to see your doctor, if it gets so bad before you can see the dr, then go to the local er..

Nope.
It's one of those drugs you shouldn't start or stop suddenly, and you should always use SSRIs under the supervision of a doctor.
Oh, and using drugs without a prescription is a bad idea in any situation.

NO! These meds should never be started or stopped abruptly. They don't give you an instant effect, like xanax or prozac. They take weeks to work. Then you'll have major withdrawal symptoms if you stop them abruptly.
