empty apartment? The smell is sickening. I live in the apt across from it. What should I do? The Manager hires ex-cons to clean & paint that are her own family!

The painter left over a week ago & he used latex, so I know it's definately NOT the paint that smells.

What else should I be looking for to ID this as a lab? I don't want to call the Police & have it be a false alarm. They already think that I over-react when I smell pot.

The building has a sprinkler system in every unit. No gas lines & it just got new light fixtues installed that are low wattage neons. The cameras were disabled & I suspect the phone lines have been tapped. Since the Police have never called me back after trying to explain my concerns to them, why would they believe me now? Perhaps it's bought & paid for & I'm interfearing with something that I just can't fight. I need better advice than what I have read so far. Let's get creative...my live is important to me & the last thing I want is the cops after my butt! What's another way to alert the Police?

Sorry for the typo...that should read LIFE, not live in the above paragraph. Since no one wants to share info on a professional level, then I'll just sent the Neighborhood Watch contact person another email & it will most likely be ignored like all the rest of the info I have passed on to them. It really shakes my faith in the way things work. Even the cops don't want to deal with a METH LAB or the people reporting it. Is it that risky? Pay me..I'll do it..what else is there to live for? I hate these manufacturers who are ruining the land & making California an ugly place.

YES, I am quite sure the unit is empty
NO, I cannot move because this is government housing for people on fixed incomes.
I am physically disabled & cannot move for another year when I go to a 55+ complex.
I can stand outside 2 blocks away & look at my complex & see the fumes rising above it. Just because it is hot outside doesn't change the fact that I know what is going on. I just don't know how to convey this to the correct people. Obviously, the local PD doesn't want to get involved & quite frankly, I don't trust them to leave me out of the limelight.

Maybe I'll just turn this whole thing into a screen play. It's already a short story! I'm from L.A....I should be used to this crap by now, but I'm NOT. I think I need the "A" TEAM on this one!

THANX 4 TRYING TO HELP ON THIS ONE, BUT I DOUBT THAT ANY OF YOU HAVE EVER LIVED AROUND THIS TYPE OF THING. Calling the Police from the site of a suspected METH LAB can make your entire Family a target of these PRO's who spend time & money to invade & takeover entire City blocks in order to make those MEGA BUCKS! I'm tired of moving. Soon there will be nowhere for the honest people to live!~

Call the POLICE you have a METH lab next door to you and it could explode into flames killing you and your kids. Call 911!!!!

You should not be smelling nail polish remover from a vacant apartment at all. It should be stronger in the cooking stage. Then should get weaker as the process goes on and it is ether you are smelling not polish remover. Ether is a flammable liquid that explodes when exposed to high heat. You know it is vacant so if you see people come in and out at odd hours of the night but I really think you have a Meth lab next to you.

Are you sure the apartment is empty?

I agree with other posters, could possibly be a meth lab. Or someone could have left some acetone around. Call the police with your concerns.

Uhh if it walks like a duck and ....
it's prob a meth lab...ex-cons that are her family?? don't need to be a sharp tack to connect the dots on this one. I would also suggest moving after you get the cops involved. Don't want to be near that kind of atmosphere.

If you are concerned about the police, call the fire department and tell them you smell a chemical smell from the empty apartment.

Let them deal with the cops.
