was not bearing fruit, before he approached it. And that too, in the off season.

So somehow he got surprised or upset and cursed it, as if he never knew anything long time ago.

Hmmm... Or was he a good actor?

PIn, it takes common sense, anyway.

Why did he have to curse it? It's not the tree's fault that it's off-season. It's not like the tree said "Here comes Jesus, I'm going to not bear fruit now..."
Wouldn't it have been more productive if Jesus had just magically made the tree bear fruit? Then, not only could he have had fruit to eat, but maybe they could have fed some poor people! Boy, Jesus didn't think ahead, did he?
(I think my version--bearing fruit and then feeding poor people--would have made a better parable than Jesus throwing a temper-tantrum and killing the tree.)

Jesus’ words on the occasion, as recorded in Mark 11:22-25, provide a clue to the answer. As Jesus explained, this was a lesson for them to “have faith in God.” What did the withering of this fig tree have to do with faith? First of all, it was Jesus’ faith that made the curse effective. Evidently, Jesus was using this occasion to provide an object lesson on the power of faith. As Jesus stated: “All the things you pray and ask for have faith that you have practically received, and you will have them.”—Mark 11:24.

But there also seems to be another connection between the withering of this fig tree and the quality of faith. Just three months prior to this incident Jesus uttered a parable about an unfruitful fig tree that needed to be cut down. And what was pictured by the fig tree of this parable? This unfruitful fig tree was a symbol of the ancient Jewish nation.

So it is reasonable to believe that the barren fig tree that Jesus cursed was also a symbol of the unfruitful ancient Jewish nation. Although this nation had been in a covenant relationship with God, the appearance was deceptive, for the nation proved barren of good fruitage, even rejecting God’s own Son.

Maybe you should look into exactly when you can tell if a fig is going to bear fruit...

Even Jesus the Son of God doesn't know the hour that He will return...

Megatron is changing the facts to fit his agenda of atheistic proselytizing. Jesus was told ahead of time about the nonproductive fig tree. Therefore He was neither surprised or upset. He was there to make a point. Which He did. Wondermus almost has it right. It is against those who say they are of our brother Judah, but are actually of the synagogue of satan.

Although the story does not explicitly say it, it's actually a parable. It's actually a polemic against Jews..

Where exactly did you get that Jesus was all knowing and all wise? That's how god is presented. Jesus, as a man, was presented as a prophet, and holy man, a son of god, but still a MAN - with all the faults and failings of a man - including getting mad. Wasn't the first time, you know.
