Macy's on 34th Street and Sixth Avenue and Lord & Taylor on Fifth Avenue and 38th Street. Be sure to check the discount racks at the back of the departments - you can find clothing at 75% off the original price. Other stores to try are:

Loehmann's

Daffy's

Barney's

Wear your most comfortable shoes and take a piece of luggage on wheels with you - you don't want to be burdened with a lot of packages while you're shopping.

There was a time when people came to New York to shop at the stores they couldn't find at home. You just listed stores you can find in most nice malls across the country.

Start at Macy's which is at 34th and 6th. Then head up Fifth Avenue. You'll pass Lord and Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, and a number of high class boutiques. Bloomingdales is at 59th and Lexington.

Then change up and shop like a New Yorker. Go downtown to Century 21, which is on Courlandt St. across from Ground Zero. Visit the funky shops on Canal Street. Visit the shops in the Upper East Side.

Soho. (borders canal street and the hudson river)

There really isn't anythig you can't find there but if you want to keep going:

Macy's on 34th and Herald Square.

Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side

Columbus Circle W. 59th street - near lincoln center and the entrance to Central park. There is a mall : The Shops at Columbus Circle

Well I personally love the stores American Eagle, Macys, Charlette Russe, Forever 21, H&M, Bloomingdales, Daffy's, Aeropostale, Coach, delias*, Roxy and Juicy Coiture. All of these stores are located in the city. Some of which, you may have to take the train to get to each store, but in the end it's all worth it. I'll give you the stores' website and you can plan how to get there.

On those websites go to store locator and compare how close they would be to each other....doing that you would go to http://hopstop.com <-- that site gives you subway directions

bloomy's is on 59th street and lex and macy's is on 34th st. you can go on 5th ave from 40th street to 59th street and you have all the major designer stores like lord and taylors, sean john, luis vitton (spelling?), anne taylor, sach's 5th ave, etc. if you knock offs you can go to chinatown in lower manhattan and right across from ground zero you have century 21. For your underwear needs you have victoria secret, which is across the street from macy's. On 7th avenue and 34th street you have the gap and old navy.
