The last couple of jobs I have had have unrealistic guidelines!! Why are jobs allowed to be so ignorant..uncaring....bullying..heartless..The job I am at now treats people like mud..
We never know one week to next when we are working. they are consistantly hiring people.. at least half the people that get hired, quit after one month 75% by 3-6, and 98% within the first 18 months.. There is no communication at my work whatsoever...they watch every single second..we are timed exactly to the second on ten minute breaks, and we are timed exactly 30 minutes for lunch. It is ridiculous. They make employees who are sick come in, there are no sick days. the insurance sucks.. but I have to be there a year before I can look elsewhere. ...not only that, they compliment you one minute and then treat you like a joke the next minute. I really think employers nowadays are inhumane..

I had a huge story about mine and my friends' ordeals at work, but then I realized that I shouldn't write all of that.

Let's just say I know first hand about being singled-out and told that I couldn't wear something when someone else could.

I've had a man rub all over me and have to sit there and take it, because he was one of the bosses and was related to the other bosses. He even did it in front of the other workers, like he was flaunting it.

I've been written up for dancing too loudly, when there was absolutely no dancing involved.

I even had someone to fire me, but tell me that he wanted me to stay on another week to train my replacement. I didn't.

I've been backstabbed by two conniving sisters in a family owned company.

I've had a psycho woman from the hell planet lay her hands on me (not in a nice way) and not been able to do anything about it.

Oh, yeah, and there's the simple fact that my best friend in the entire world tried to sabotage my job just last week, because I work at yet another family-owned company.

In the "real world," people are not nice like your mom and dad taught you to be. They're evil, manipulative, backstabbing monsters who had rather kick you than compliment you. Don't be mistaken for one second.

The thing is, nowadays, places of employment are not nice places like you see on television where everyone gets along, jokes around and has personalities and senses of humor. No. In a real company, your personality is stifled, your sense of humor is left at the door, and the people who work there are NOT your friends.

More often than not, if there is a promotion to be had, the girl or guy you most often confide in will be the one standing at the head of the line, ready to stab you in the back as soon as you turn around.

Over my not-so-lengthy job searching period, I have discovered that #1, you have to suck-up to the boss; there's no getting around that. You have to AT LEAST find out what he/she likes and doesn't like and try to fit yourself to it. Individuality is usually not accepted; especially when you work with a group of people who are on the same level that you are. For example, customer service or fast food. #2, you have to keep your mouth shut and your ears and eyes open. #3, DO NOT work for a family owned business unless you want to suffer. #4, DO NOT work with your girlfriend or boyfriend or family members unless you want to strain your relationship. Because even loved ones become frustrated with each other, and when you come home, they're there. You go to work, and they're there. So, you see? There's no "away" time. People usually just get sick and tired of seeing each other twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, and there is almost always at least one set of hurt feelings in the mix. #5, if you are complaining, your boss will find out and probably fire you for some reason that's been blown out of proportion. Many, many, many people have been fired for someone accusing them of saying a bad word or someone saying that they looked angrily at them. #6, DO NOT sign anything at work without reading it and completely understanding it. I got really messed up by doing that when a former supervisor had me to sign something. She told me it was something completely different (lied on purpose), and after I signed it, she backdated it a week. Of course, since I signed it without reading it and took her word on what it was, it was my fault, because it was my signature. She later used that to try to get me into trouble! And #7, the most important rule: YOU DO NOT HAVE FRIENDS AT WORK!

I hope that you can draw something from my hints, and I hope that you don't have to learn the hard way about the harsh ways of the business world. It really hurts, and it can leave damage not only to your work record, but also to your trust and mental status.

"Shouldn't a company be able to make decisions based on it's best interests? " Well, sure. But when you only see people as numbers and quit treating them as human beings(as bosses are human beings), employees notice. I'm semi-retired now but I can't tell you the amount of (what I and other employees see as) pure inhumanity in employers. Employees not allowed to attend a parent's funeral while the boss is in Tahiti. Employees laid off because they point out violations of employment law. Employees promoted not because they work hard but because they stroke an employers ego. Time off to see a doctor or sick time has become more difficult with each passing year. Why bother with insurance you're not able to use anyway? I don't think the attitude of cutting costs to make the corporation profits-while management gets a raise-is in the best long term interests of the company at all. But today, ceos care about today and their own bonuses and retirement. And, no, we're not jealous. We choose to be employees, but we also think we'll get some small reward for working hard for you. When we make $10,000 for our boss, would it kill the employer to bonus us $100? As a small business owner, I'm hopeful that you are more humane but I worked for two of those(besides large conglomerates) and it was no better. I believe you teach people how to treat you and employees will become less and less dependable because they know that no matter how loyal and hardworking they have been, employers can fire them because they have cancer(I've seen that too). Somebody said "Treat an employee well and they'll steal paperclips and sticky pads but treat them bad and they'll rob you blind". Edit: And yes, I've seen pregnant women laid off.

It's unfortunate that you have to be in that position, but sometimes if that is the only job in that area, then you ahve to stick to it, wait the year and then find something else.
By the way, why do you have to be there a year? Did you sign some type of employment contract?
Unless you signed a contract or agreement to stay a year, you don't have to stay.
Find a job somewhere else! Go to school. Get a degree. Do better. Don't get stuck on the minimum wage train.
I've been in that kind of job, and I hated it. As soon as I had the chance, I left after a few months.

Learn to think positive. Be reminded that you're hired to do the job and not find faults with your employer. One year can pass by real quickly.

These days employers like to keep their employee's off balance. The solution is to go postal and shoot the place up, starting with the supervisor that u least like and take your choice on the way down

They do it because they can. It's up to you to get an education and put in your time so that you can skip over those jobs.
