buy puppy dog food, if you are going to be giving it dog food you buy from the store. it has more protein than adult food.
i feed my dog (9 months) a mix of raw mince, cooked rice or pasta and fresh uncooked vegies, with puppy kibble. he gets 3 bones a week as well. i have just started to wean him off the puppy crackers though, and have started with the adult ones (only because he is a big dog, and i cant find big bags of puppy kibble), but many people feed them puppy food until 12 months.

If they've just been weened feed them milk & a weat-bix (which is Australian _ I don't know the american counterpart) - just a cereal really. Something light with milk.
