yes. i have my van put in my name, and insurance in my husbands because its cheaper. They didnt need proof of anything.

No, you cannot insure a car you do not own. You still need to be on her insurance if you plan on driving the car. Some people here will tell you it's the "car" thats insured and you won't need to be on the policy. Don't believe it. Check with her insurance company.

Yes, you can put the insurance in your name but be sure to add your girlfriend to the insurance policy otherwise if she is involved in an accident your insurance company won't pay for the damages because she is not listed on the policy.
