If so, it wouldn't be friends with benefits - the benefits part implies that there is a heavy physical thing going on between you two. If you are just talking, you are friends who really like each other. Everyone would benefit from more friends.
If you haven't met yet, be very careful - he may or may not be what he has presented to you. The internet can be a lot of fun, but can also be a very dangerous place.

What you "are" in terms of relationship *ALL* depends on the context of the messages and conversations. If you talked often as friends, then it doesn't place you two beyond "friendship" level. However, if you two were very lewd in your conversations, going over the dirty things you'd do to each other upon meeting, it might make you something more along the lines of "Friends with benefits."
In the end, it is something you will most likely have to infer for yourself, but it is most likely on the friendship level, if that. Online relationships are questionable at best, from the beginning, so if you're looking for a fulfilling relationship you'd be best off finding someone who you can be easily in contact with, perhaps in your community.

Well to me online dating never work. I mean you have to really interact with the person before you really can like him. If I were you and I am so anxious to find out maybe ask him out on a date or something. See how it feels and let your feeling guide you.
