Poster 1 needs to get off the rag (see her questions!_!) and get some education before making generic statements based on data from 1995.
Since this is a 5 year old car the warranty has run out, so please have it checked throughly by a mechanic for any issues (don't buy any privately sold used car without having a mechanic check it out). 59K miles isn't a whole lot, you should easily be able to double if not triple that figure before the cost of repairs outweighs the value of the car. The Sonata is a really good car and the dealership retail is $7000. You should be able to bargin down to $6K which is the private party sale value.

I have to agree with the 2nd & 3rd. The Sonata is a great car and Hyundai has come a long way to prove that they are serious car makers. The Sonata can compete with the Honda and Toyota models in it's class heads up. I recently rented an 07 Sonata after renting a Maxima the week before. I swear that the Sonata handled as well as the Maxima in every respect.

Contrary to popular belief, Korean cars are no longer "throw-away" cars and the people who say that obviously havent owned one since the early 90's. Some of us are old enough to remember when Honda first started making cars-they were junk, too, for the first several years. The Kelly Blue Book suggested retail value for that car is $9870, assuming it's in excellent condition. Remember, the timing belt is scheduled to be replaced at 60K, so, if it hasn't been done plan to do so and figure on it costing you about $400. Use that as a bargaining tool when negotiating the final price. I see these cars on a daily basis in my shop with 150K miles on them.

hyundai's are throw away cars. its really not worth it unless its like 2 grand or below and you only plan on using it for a little while. go for something that will last long. like a honda or toyota.
