Contact the agency that issued your marriage certificate and request a corrected copy.

Why would it necessarily match? I was born in Ohio, but married in California and divorced in Oregon. None of those records "matched" but I had no trouble getting a passport.

Did someone in the State Department tell you this or did some regular joe on the street? Get in touch with the real authority and don't waste time listening to what "they say"

To get a passport, you need to fill out the paperwork, and you need proof of identity as well as proof of citizenship. A marriage license is considered neither. Nor is a social security card.

Apply for your passport using your birth certificate as your proof doc.

Complete the form using your true information, including your correct married name.

You'll be standing in front of the government clerk at the post office. When they ask for your marriage certificate, simply say you didn't bring it.

They'll have you complete an affidavit or statement of facts and sign as to its truthfulness.

If you bring up the fact that the birthplace is different you'll be opening a can of worms . . . That's a government employee in front of you. They don't care how much time they take and have no concept of productivity.

Just sign the statement of facts or affidavit and your passport will be processed according to the facts you signed off as true.

Good luck.
