The same way you would a new pup.

The ONLY time you can correct your dog for an accident is if you catch him the act. Then you tell him NO in a firm tone, and bring him outside to finish, praise lavishly when he does.

If you find a mess, well to bad, your fault, you should have been watching closer.

LittleBarb, you have a total misconception of crate training. Crate training isn't teaching a dog to go insides. Rather its a way help prevent the dog from having accidents in the house. It works on the principle that a dog will not eliminate where it sleeps. When the puppy can't be supervised, it goes in the crate. Its a great aid in the housebreaking process. Pads and litterboxes, I'll agree with you on those.

If your dog has started using the bathroom in the house again, you should have him evaluated by a veterinarian.

If he is peeing in the house, it could be a urinary tract infection. These are very painful and they make dogs feel like they need to pee frequently, which is why they start peeing in the house. You should have a urine sample checked by a vet. (If you've ever had a UTI, you know how excruciating it is!)

If he is pooping in the house, you should have a stool sample checked by a vet for intestinal parasites and have a rectal exam done to check his muscle tone.

Once all medical problems have been ruled out, then you can re-train your dog. I would verbally reprimand him every time he goes to the bathroom in the house, but you have to catch him while he's in the act. I would say something like "NO POTTY!" in a very stern voice, then pick him up and take him directly outside where he is supposed to go to the bathroom. If you are too late and don't catch him in the act, then don't bother--he won't know what you're talking about. You could also consider contacting a trainer about the behavioral issue.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL5fQ

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

It really sounds like you dog may have a medical condition, if it was trained and now it's going in the house. I certainly would have the vet check stool and/or urine for infections. Dogs don;t usually just start going in the house without a reason. Does he/she have different or less access to the outside, or have you moved recently and someone else had a pet in the home? There really are a number of reasons, but please have the vet check first and foremost. If it is medical, he/she may need medication and the problem may then be "cured". Good luck

Why is there a need to re potty train, and if you did it the first time why are you asking about the second. If it is a new dog and just was never taught then just take her out every hour or so untill she gets the jist of things. If she has accidents just bring her to it tell her no and put her outside for a min.

Crate training is the way to go. Get a book at your library or bookstore and stick to the plan. You could also have a trainer assist you.

what is all this talk about crate training and PAD training???? what ever happened to good old fashioned GET OFF THE COUCH AND TAKE THE DOG OUTSIDE training???????? Don't dogs GO outside any more??? I mean geez.... start from the beginning----feed it, put it on a leash, open your front door and walk with it UNTIL it does a job OUTSIDE.... praise it when it does.... do not come back INSIDE until the dog does one maybe 2 "jobs"... Hey it's good exercise for YOU too... rather then sitting on your couch with your head up a video game or soap opera... if you crate train or pad train, you are always picking up a mess INSIDE YOUR HOUSE and it doesn't always smell the best....Teach the dog to go "potty" OUTSIDE where they are MEANT to go!!!!
