Not really although many stores do have sales on. The biggest sales still occur on Boxing Day but there is no time when almost everything is on for a 70% discount. There are some good sales however fom Boxing Day (best day since the biggest deals go early) onward. Some stores have actually started them earlier so it is not as big a deal as before in some cases.

Your friend is wrong, most stores are closed on New Year's Day. As others have said, Boxing Day is the big sale day, but the discount will depend on the store.
Also, in some provinces stores are closed by law for a holiday on Boxing Day, so any sales would start on Dec. 27.

Not even maybe. Some things are on sale December 26, but people line up from the very early hours of the morning. The very best deals they only have 1 or 2 of so unless you are lining up in freezing temperatures at 3-4am you may as well forget it.
I have not been to a Boxing Day sale as they are called in years. It's simply not worth it unless you are one of the first 10 at most in the store. Even then there is no guarantee you will get what you wanted.

Nope. Your friend was referring to Boxing Day (December 26th).
In Canada, our after-Christmas Boxing Day sales tend to be 50% off or more on many items in the stores. It is a bit like the Thanksgiving Day sales in USA. Catch is that usually there are only a limited selection of items available and so you have to be one of the first 50 people in the store and such.

No, that's Boxing Day. Some stores have "Boxing Day" sales that last a week or more, but generally the best deals are on Boxing Day itself, or the sales are offered only while stock lasts. In at least some but I think all provinces, stores are closed on New Years Day.

December 26 in Canada is Boxing Day, and it's CRAZZZY BUSY in stores because of all of the sales...some probably as good as 70% off....
But be warned, some stores, such as electronic stores have people standing outside at like 3 or 4am to be the first one to get in for the deals!!

Your friend is either joking with you ....or has mistaken BOXING DAY for NEW YEARS DAY .NEW YEARS DAY EVERYTHING IS CLOSED
BOXING DAY is the DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS ....and you will find discounts better than the rest of the year but if you think everything is 70 % their highly mistaken

ok, i'm canadian... just so you know, canada is a pretty damn big country and we have a lot of stores. Not all of them offer exactly 70% off.
Your friend is probably thinking of Boxing Day.. it's the day after Christmas and almost every store has big sales going on.
