Do you know someone that keeps using parts of scripture as a podium to be judgmental on others?

this in NOT how Christian are suppose to act

OMG, if I was sounding like a person who is being "judgmental" of how another person should act, I am soooo sorry! This was NOT my intention at all, I just wanted to ask a question because of the questions I've seen on R&S. Please do not take this as an attack on any one person, just a question

You might open your heart just a little more and realize that the person/people you are referring to are not trying to be judgmental neither.Any time people are using the word of God we should listen well to what is being said.I love you Sister and covet your prayers.

How about this, why do some non-Christians, who don't read scripture, use that as a reason to look down on people who do read and believe scripture?

I'm especially impressed with people who pass judgment on others for being judgmental. The irony is a rich as chocolate chess pie.

Well Man people just make choices in life that arent the greatest. Everyone does it I do some things and then point out the wrongs in others but just a month or so ago i might have done what they are doing now ;( You can only judge your self and figure out what you need to change if you sit around and point the finger at everyone else and not realize your own ways then you wil hold your self back!

FYI....I think I might know as much as you do as to how a Christian should act...27 years saved....and he does not want us to overlook sin. I will not participate in or approve of a sin of one of my Friends,,,I will tell them why I can not but I do not judge them..they are free to do what they want to do, but I will not go with them to do it. If they get angry with me for that...oh well..Serving God is more important to me than what they think....

It just could be that the person may ask for a scripture from the Bible, to see if you can prove that God thinks what they are doing is a sin. They usually don't believe God calls what they are doing a sin, unless you show them the scripture and then when you read it to them...they call you judgmental....even thought you didn't say it,,,God did and they asked you for it....go figure....

Sure, but I don't want to be judgmental of those who are judgmental. Although . . . here is one I like: Proverbs 21; Verses 24, 25, 26, 27 . . . "A man with hate in his heart may sound pleasant enough, but don't believe him; for he is cursing you in his heart. Though he pretends to be so kind, his hatred will finally come to light for all to see. The man who sets a trap for others will get caught in it himself. Roll a boulder down on someone, and it will roll back and crush you."

Even the Devil can quote scripture to his own gain. Just remind the person 'to judge not, lest he be judged' let them go. God will have to deal with those types, either by moving their hearts while here on earth, or holding them accountable after death.

No this is not a true christian he or she should never put anyone down because one might not know the truth right? You can give then insight to try to guide them but never never look down on any of God's people.

sometimes we as Christians 1) are held to a higher standard, but we are sinners just like everyone else and 2) people don't like it when they are showed that what they are doing goes against the way that God wants things to be....Not making excuses for those who call themselves Christians but just because you live in a chicken coop don't make you a chicken.

There are two sides of the coin to be looked at in answer to your question. One side is where Jesus warned against hypocritical judgment in Matthew 7. He said to first examine your self for faults or "take the log out of your eye" before you attempt to remove the speck from your brother's eye. There is also the passage in Ephesians 4 where we are told to speak the truth in love to one another. That refers to having the right attitude where the goal is to build up the other person in their walk with Christ and not to tear them down with the Scriptures.

The other side of the coin is that God's Word is our standard for how we should think and speak and act. It isn't wrong to lovingly tell someone that something they are doing is not in accordance with what the Bible teaches. Jesus said in Matthew 18 that if someone sins against you then you should go to them and show them their fault with the goal being to get the person to repent and to restore fellowship. He went on to lay out the steps of what one should do if that doesn't work and in 1 Corinthians 5 Paul echoes the end of what Jesus taught.

Matthew 7:4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Matthew 18:15 "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler--not even to eat with such a one. 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside. "Purge the evil person from among you."
