They don't physically move their bodies at all! It's just driving a car in a circle for hours on end. Even baseball is more of a physical sport than NASCAR!!!
If you want some real athletes, check the NBA & NFL b/c NASCAR is nowhere near a sport.
I know people who drive 100+mph down the highway! Are we gonna start calling them athletes, too!?!?
Here is their careers: They Drive Cars!
And I see that on ESPN twice as much as the sum of boxing, lacrosse, and soccer combined. I'm not crazy about some of those sports, but at least they are sports. At least a human being isn't sitting down the whole time.
Even those ESPN SPELLING BEES are more of a sport than NASCAR!!!
What is wrong with America, and why can't we come up with a better sport than NASCAR!
OK. Now that I'm done, let's hear what you guys have to say...

I watch REAL sports like Basketball & Football. Hell, even LaCross is semi-entertaining.
NASCAR is not even worth watching!!!

CLEVIS: They fight a hell of a lot more than NASCAR drivers!!!
See:
Detroit Pistons vs. Indiana Pacers
New York Knicks vs. Denver Nuggets
and how could we ever forget the infamous Kings-Lakers rivalry.
Shut up, you stupid prick. You know nothing about basketball.

I tell you what, get in your car on a 100 degree day, roll up the windows, turn on the heat, & then drive around for 4 to 5 hrs. Now please don't forget that you don't have to deal with going 180 + mph with 42 other cars all around you doing the same thing (do you even realize how much air is being displaced by a car going that fast). Now I've got a question for you: How come golf is considered a sport? Bacically anybody that can walk can do it, just go to any country club & watch all those old men play it. Yes some people are great at it & some are terrible but all of them can play. Now if you say that is a silly comparision then how much sillier is it to compare someone going 100 mph (which is only 25 to 30 mph above highway speeds) on a highway to someone going 180 +? By the way please don't mention sports & ESPN together, the people at ESPN think that poker & hot dog eating contest are both sports.

Truthfully----It's pretty obvious your stupid question does not even deserve an answer from NASCAR fans. You'd be a lot better off with Big Time Wrestling. U probably think it's real & those goons are athletes. As to the ones u know that drive 100+mph on the highway, glad I don't live where u do! We got something for u to sit on! If ya don't like it, don't bother people that do. Get a life!!!

OK, now that everyone has told you of what the drivers go through lets not forget the pit crew( this is a TEAM sport). these tough men change 4 tires, gas up the car, clean the windshield, clean the bugs out of the grill, and make repairs. and they do it all in about 12 to 14 sec. I can't even take one tire off in 14 sec., can you. and without the pit crew the driver wouldn't be able to finish a race, much less win it. so if you don't think that the drivers are athletes then you should at least see how the pit crews are!!

OK, now that you're done, I have something to say.
It's a hot summer afternoon. Get in your car that has been sitting out in the sun. It's hot, isn't it. Maybe about 110 degrees, right? OK, now go out onto the Freeway and just swerve around cars at 90 mph. If you screw up once, your car is totaled. Do that for about 2 hours
Now multiply all of that by 2.
NASCAR drivers are in 130 degree cars for 4 hours. One mistake can and will cost them the race.
You want to know more? All righty then!
NASCAR drivers ALSO lose an average of 8 pounds of sweat during a race. That's twice as much as an NBA basketball player loses in an NBA game.
So, let's recap
1. 4 hours
2. 130 degrees
3. One mistake, and you're done
4. 8 pounds of sweat lost.
Enough for ya? Call me if you need more.

First of all, you can't insult something you've never been a part of. I'm not personally attached to NASCAR in any way, but I know people who are.
I'm not sure you can say something like driving one of their cars is easy - and not sound uneducated. They're not normal cars you'd find on the road, and the driving conditions they're under are much different than normal.
You might want to try actually driving one of their cars just to see what it's like.
I just think it's funny because NASCAR has the most loyal fans of any sport I've ever seen. It's also more popular that baseball, and probably even more popular than football. If you don't want to think of it as a sport, think of it as pure entertainment. Every week these drivers put themselves in dangerous, adrenaline rushing situations that could cost them their lives if they make the slightest mistake. NASCAR requires just as much strategy as any other *sport*, the drivers have to watch their weight and probably train just like any other athlete. Their agility is just displayed through their cars, not in the way they make a tackle or the way they slide on base.
You can say NASCAR is for rednecks, and that's your own opinion - everyone's entitled to think what they want. I just think it's best to consider all points of view before making a decision. And you definitely shouldn't be talking about something you know nothing of unless you like millions of people on Y/A thinking you're uneducated.

As I've been pointing out at least once a week, NASCAR is not considered a sport. NASCAR is a sanctioning body. Auto racing is a sport.
And if you think auto racing doesn't belong under the label of "sports," what label do you suggest? Education? Politics? Art? Religion? Every kind of human activity has to fall into some category. If you propose to re-label something, try to have a new label in mind. Otherwise you're going to sound pretty foolish.

Because it is a sport. I find your ignorance of the physical skills necessary to drive in NASCAR astounding. It's so easy for you to sit at your keyboard and make up laughable insults. If you think driving in NASCAR is so easy go try it. Those guys make lots of money and you would probably love to cash checks like that, but I doubt you are physically or mentally able to do it.

Well, i guess all those g-forces they experience pressing their bodies is nothing.
The temperature inside there car can exceed 140 degrees F , I mean we never complain about that kind of temperature right?
I'm sure the wrecks they experience are real gentle at 180+ MPH.
Physical and Mental dehydration, they have to prep alot before they race, just like other athletes. Just because it may not seem as physical, doesn't make it any less demanding or of a sport.

Now do you want a cookie? who care what you think. I do not see you driving at 200mph with 42 other cars on your butt and trying not to hit the wall or the other cars, it is not like being on the highway. on the highway you are not trying to win a race with 42 other drivers wanting to win too. so until i see you on ESPN driving in a nascar race. I say until then you need to leave the hard stuff to the real nascar fans. you will understand when you grow-up.
