My fiancee just added more RAM (I have a gig now) and a new video card to my systerm, and now my computer keeps spontaneously crashing (well, at least booting me out of programs like Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, and World of Warcraft). My C Drive is 74.5 MB with 43.7 MB of free space. I'm not running massive amounts of downloads or anything, just checking my email, posting on message boards, etc. with only one or two windows open at a time. What's going on, and what can I do to fix it?

43.7 MB of free space ???? you must've meant 43.7 GB, right ? Anyway your problem may be the RAM, Video card or Power supply. I would check to make sure the video card and ram is firmly seated. Check the video card requirement to see if your pc has enough power. Newer video card require more power to run and if you have a generic or cheap power supply--doesn't matter how many watts it's suppose to have--- your pc will crash. Are you sure you have the right RAM ?? a bad RAM stick will also cause the crash. Make sure you update the Video card driver too. There's not enough info to go on but checking your ram, video card and power supply should be a starting point.

Here's my checklist for keeping my RAM as free as possible. It works for me.

- set wallpaper and screensavers to blank or none — they run continuously in the background and use memory.
- review your start menu – remove anything you don’t need on a daily basis — load games, etc. on an as-needed basis.
- from Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options: delete cookies, delete files (offline), and clear history. You can also set days to store pages in history to 0.
- run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag at least every two weeks (the more frequently they are run, the less time they take).
- periodically, click Start, Programs, Run — they type ipconfig renew
(that’s ipconfig space renew).
