I have to leave my house before my kids start school. They go to different schools and start at different times. Also, one goes to a school that is sometimes closed due to staff shortage and they don't inform me until I'm already at work. My concerns are with putting them in a before school program when the younger one may not even go to school on any particular day either due to staff shortage or weather. I still need to go into work. Also, I have 3 children so I'm worried it might be expensive. I don't want to ask relatives or friends because they either are unable to watch my kids for me due to other obligations (work) or because I don't feel comfortable asking them and I just don't want to "go there."

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do you have a similar situation? What do you do?

Quit your job like the rest of the Midwest and South and live off of Welfare. The system can pay for everything for you...food, cars, housing...and then you won't have to worry about it. It's a good thing that no states have decided to put a limit on how long people can be on welfare. you might as well have more kids that you can't support on your own! GO AMERICA!!! i should leave this country.....

I would ask around the neighborhood. There might be a mom that you could pay to get them on the bus in the morning. She might also be willing to watch the child who's school has staff shortages (I would consider changing schools there, you and your child need a consistent situation) on occasion. It might be a little cheaper and probably more flexible. I'm a stay at home mom and I helped with a neighborhood child for a while. It worked out well for everyone. Good luck :)

Hire help.
A senior citizen (your best bet) or college student might be willing to work cheap. Maybe offer a meal or other "perk".

There are stay at home moms in your neighborhood. Make friends, beg a favor and clean her house/do her yard work, or watch her kids so she can go on a "date" with her husband (or whatever).

you will need to look at your job and see if there are other options. Or will just have to put kids in school care. There are not many options. But I would be looking for a differertn school if there are so many teacher strikes

You need flex time! Can you go in later, and then get off work at a later time?

Is it possible to change your work schedule? Could you talk to your boss and explain your situation...for example, maybe you could go in at 9a.m., instead of 8???
