MELicious VT:

Unless you think your own parents count as forefathers, then you're mistaken. The pledge wasn't written until the early 20th century, and the "under God" phrase wasn't added until the 1950s.

God is not mentioned in the US constitution.

I would willingly pledge allegiance to "one nation, under the Constitution."

Heh, good question. I don't even say the pledge, because seperation of church and state should apply. It's disrespectful to non-believers. We're Americans, too.

Absolutely no element of the Christian faith requires that of non believers. However that's the pledge of allegiance your nation has chosen to have.

In fact the God they mention in the Constitution and the God they mention on your dollar bill is not the same God of the Christian faith. The God they refer to is the 'Grand Architect'. If you wish to understand this a bit more, you should study the dollar bill very closely. Understand it's meaning........
That is why I keep saying "What do you mean when you say God".

Thank you for your question

I originally learned the words to the pledge as "...one nation, indivisible..." and I liked it that way.

"In God We Trust" was added to our money as an after thought, too. http://www.ustreas.gov/education/fact-sheets/currency/in-god-we-trust.html ...and although the idea of adding the words "In God We Trust" to the reverse side of the United States Great Seal, was considered, it was never acted upon by the original framers of our government.

Our Pledge and our money ought to represent the views of all the people ... It's wrong to advertize for "God" in this public way.

I have beliefs.....just not Christian/Jewish or Muslim beliefs.

Thus, I am a Believer...I just choose to believe as I will.
I see these as JUST words, but am well aware that for many it's the principal of the thing.

It's not an element of Faith - it was an Element thought necessary by our American Forefathers.

Yes, since my parents, and their parents and my grandparents parents all came before me - then they do qualify as forefathers. If you don't like what it says, don't say it. It's THAT simple. Let it go, move on.

I think many of you are mistaking forefathers for FOUNDING fathers. There IS a difference.
