My friend has a beautiful 3 year old white cat named Rita that needs knee surgery on both her knees. She was told it would be $2000. Naturally being a college student, she was horrified at the price...after just purchasing books for the semester and art supplies- there's no way she can afford it. Today she just found out it will be $2000 per knee, so we are now looking at $4000, hence this poor kittys chances of being better ever look near impossible. It is looking pretty grim...Rita is already blind, so having horrible knees doesn't help her life any.

If anyone knows anything about how to help this kitty...please contact me...I would love to help out a kitty and a good friend : )

Some vets do community service for people. You'd have to call around and see, and don't forget to call the humane society, they have vets on call who work with them so should know more about who does this kind of thing.

Free is a little bit of a stretch.

SPCA and animal control will offer reduced prices, but it's usually for things like vaccines and spay/neuter, not something like this. Ask, all they can say is no.
ALSO,
They can tell you about grants, funds, and other "charitable organizations" that may be able to help.

Try a fundraiser. Bake sales, yard sales, car wash, or just do a little begging.
Play up the cat's blindness, that will get you attention and money.
