As a general rule, one does not get arrested on a civil matter. However, if you have any outstanding child support issues OR have a rash of unpaid parking tickets, then that could be the cause. If you do not get it cleared up and there really is an outstanding warrant, you could be arrested if you get stopped for a traffic violation in any state and you may stay in jail for a while before it is cleared up. It may be the wisest course of action to get it taken care of. However, you should contact a NJ lawyer and seek his advice. Good luck.

Not exactly. But many acts can be considered BOTH a criminal violation and a civil tort. Writing bad checks to somebody when purchasing something would be one example where you can be both sued by the damaged party and arrested for violating state law. And let's not forget the infamous O.J. situation where he was first charged with murder and afterwards hauled into court and sued for Wrongful Death over the exact same incident.

If you fail to appear for a court date you've been ordered to attend, even in civil court, the judge can issue a bench warrant... to force you to appear before the Court.

No -- someone can only be arrested for criminal violations, not for civil issues.
