My husband a few weeks ago developed a hard mass thats about a centimeter in diameter in the begining beside his right ear. I thought it was just an infected pore or a boil of some type, because i get those. Then he started to develope one a few inches away from the first one along his jaw line and now it seems to be almost "connecting" I've never seen anything like this before. I did a little google searching and only thing i could come up with is a cancerous tumor called a "Pilomatrixoma" What do you guys think of this? Any ideas of what else it might be, either way I'm going to take him for the doctor but I always like to suggest what it might be to get ground so they don't have to do more tests than they need (saves money). Any advice and/or help would be really appriciated, thanks!

He has told me in the past It really hurts and usually hes not one to complain about pain. I also think hes being a little over dramatic about this, but he thinks its cancer because it runs in both sides of his family, not his particular type of cancer, but several types. We've tried heat, ice, creams, lotions, no gum chewing, massaging, menthol. Any other tips would be appriciated. I also looked up photos of swollen lymph nodes and it really doesn't look like any I've seen but then again each case is different ya know =\

Well, don't jump on the cancer thing just yet. It simply sounds like he's got swollen glands. The first thing the doctor will probably do is some blood work and put your husband on an antibiotic. It's probably just an infection. However, if it doesn't improve with antibiotics, then the doctor will need to follow up. The doctor will probably want to drain the areas that are affected and have the tissue biopsied. Try not to worry about it too much. Like I said, it could just be a minor infection.

Doubtful that it is cancer. A couple things come to mind. You did not mention if there was any pain or not in the area.
Could be a lymph node and he is trying to fight off an infection.
Salivary glands are also in that area and they can get infected.
An abscessed tooth can also cause swelling behind the ear as could a pustule (king size pimple)
Try hot, moist compresses and drink a lot of water. Then see the doctor.
Cancer is a long shot. Don't worry.

winds could be right. I know that lymph nodes hurt terribly if they swell and get hard, I have some in my throat that have been swollen for months, they don't hurt anymore, but once and a while I'll wake up and turn my neck and get a shooting pain because it's gotten bigger. It may stay swollen for years even after a bad infection apparently, but the pain should go away.

Sounds like swollen lymph nodes. If they are hard and new ones are cropping up, I would suggest a visit to the doc ASAP!
