if an ex boyfriend said this to you, what would you think?

Question

i was talking to my ex and im sick of his mixed signals so i finally called him out on it. my ex has had a few relationships since ours, one of them very serious. they are no longer together and it is quite evident he hates her (she cheated on him several times)...so anywho, i called him out and told him to tell me exactly how he felt about me...he said "my thoughts are that your taken, so i cant do anything." anyone ive told this too has interpreted it as he still loves me but is afraid to admit it flat out. i think pretty much the same thing, but im curious about what the general public thinks...?

we broke up over a lot of roumers and a whole bunch of drama which we have since found out none of which was true. he has also stepped up and taken full responsibility for anything that had gone wrong in our relationship. the whole situation confuses me because it went from an amazing relationship to complete crap almost overnight...

im sorry i cant explain myself better, its a really tricky situation. i am absolutly certain he isnt planning on using me for sex or something though, im absolutly sure he doesnt want to hurt me any more either. its rather long winded, so i cant spill it all here but im absolutly CERTAIN he means me no harm, mentaly, physicly, or sexually
