Bring in a copy of your old policy. You have to show proof that you had insurance at the time of the stop. That has nothing to do with your new policy. The court would not suggest that you don't show up. You're looking at a possible fine of $500, and another court date. Don't play games. You could lose your license.

I agree with the person above, if you still have the card and just didn't have it with you that day, that will suffice in court. I had the same issue, I cleaned out my car one day and forgot to put my insurance back in. I got a ticket the next day and then I didn't have my insurance so I had to show proof of insurance within thirty days or I'd be in more trouble. If you dont have the insurance card, flat out tell them at court that you are being sent your old insurance information and that it will be to you soon in which you can then provide it to show you were covered. You shouldn't get in trouble for that, if anything they could call up your insurance company themselves to be told that you had coverage during the time of accident. Good luck.

Take the old card with you that you were covered under when you got the ticket. If they remark that it has expired reply that it was'nt when you got the ticket and you have since changed or updated your policy and have not received the updated material yet. Which is crazy that they haven't sent the updates yet.But the fact you were covered when you got the summons should be sufficient, remember it's a summons for then not now. you should be fine. if all else fails you can get your insurance company to fax the proof there.

All you need is proof of insurance the day you were stopped, not a current policy. No way the Ins company won't provide you with an old card for 3 weeks...don't think the Judge will buy it either.

Just ask for a continuance. Explain to the judge that you will be able to provide proof of insurance at the time of the stop, but it will take 2-3 weeks.
They will likely give you a new court date at that time.
If not, the penalty here (in missouri) for no proof of insurance is $500. However, if you show current proof (if not at the time) than many judges will dismiss the charge with a payment or court costs.

Bring the policy for when the ticket was issued. Also bring anything you have, such as proof of payment for your new policy.
They should only be concerned with you proving you were covered when you did not have proof.
The worse case scenario, if they want more proof of your new policy, the judge will most likely give you more time if you ask him/her.
