Actually sizes did change a few years ago. What had been a size 8 a few years ago is now a size 10 or a size 12. For awhile they were cutting clothing a bit bigger, actually longer than a little while, about 20 years they changed the sizing, then they went back to cutting clothing as it used to be. So, a size 8 actually is pretty small.

Since when did "anorexic" become a synonym for "thin" or "skinny"?

Thank you to the person under me. I did not think of different sizings in different countries. However, I've heard "anorexic" used as a synonym for "skinny" or "thin" before and it just bugs me. The other person gave a very good definition of it as well. I've never been anorexic or bulimic, but I know how to properly use the words.

They may have meant a UK size 8, which is a US size 2.

That said it was a pretty ignorant comment for them to make in the first place as clothes size doesn't dictate whether someone has an eating disorder or not.

anorexia is a mental disease where they believe they are huge when in reality they are underweight or normal weight, they starve or eat very few calories a day..barely enough to "make it through"..they feel guilty over the small amounts of foods they eat, etc. just because someone is size 8, it doesn't mean they aren't trapped inside the disease's grip..they are still harming their bodies just as much as a thinner person starving (those have probably suffered from this illness longer) so no matter what a person's weight or size is..that does NOT determine weather a person has Anorexia Nervosa or not. xoxox
