93 yr old with advanced colon cancer has to wear a 100mg morphine patch for pain. She is in the 18th month of a time frame that was given of 6-18 months to live.

she probably needs that much because she has built a tolerance to the effects of the morphine over the course of treatment. Her pain is likely no worse than it ever was, but the medication's ability to help is getting less and less so they must give her more and more to achieve relief.

she has probably developed a tolerance for the pain med and so she needs more to have the same effect. they probably are also just trying to keep her comfortable since she is in the last month they have given her to live
