Would like to know what to pack in carry-on as opposed to suitcase. Any tips on how to pack light would be appreciated. I'm traveling to a warm climate so will be taking mostly shorts. I will be away for 10 days. Any other useful tips will be welcomed also. Thanks!

I envy you :) in a good way!

Call up the airlines about 24 to 36 hours before your flight and ask them about the security requirements at the airport you plan to embark from. Also, check with the airlines as to how much luggage they will allow on board -- and be prepared to pay at the counter if the weight of your luggage exceeds. In fact, carry the heavier stuff on your carry on.

Most airlines are helpful with this information because the experience with the airline is really your entire experience, including the trip from home/hotel to the airport and the wait at the airport until you board. Some airlines take the extra step to ensure that even this, which is your responsibility, is executed as smoothly and worry free as is practically possible.

Remember to carry at least one set of formals -- you never know what might come up!

Carry 2 pairs of jeans -- they are always a great "fall-back-on" attire -- and make it full length -- same goes for the blouse or shirt because warm climates = possible mosquitos -- so keep a bottle of the strongest deet in your check in luggage, and a small squeeze bottle of anti-itch, a small or medium roll of "Charmin" and trust me on this one... it can be frustrating trying to get a hold of "Charmin" when you need it most ;) It doesnt matter that it crumples in with the rest of your luggage.

Your 2 pairs of jeans will last for about 4 days -- wash them or have it laundered-- and they will work for 8.

Carry really thin -- you know the kind that feels like it is almost see thru -- shorts and tops of the same kind. It will work well in the warm climate you plan to visit and also will be lighter and easier to pack... you can practically roll them into a blimp.

Undergarments -- pack as much as you possibly can -- on a long trip the last thing you want is to go "shopping" for undergarments in a town you know little about. And I know this sounds stupid, but I carry a change of undergarments whenever I am out on vacation, in my backpack, of course!

If you are a woman carry all your personal hygiene items, if space allows double up on those!

Good Luck!
