I was admitted to the ER last September because I was compacted up to my ribcage. I haven't been doing too bad lately, but now it's been probably a week since I have had a bowel movement, and I'm in pain right now even after taking colace the last 3 days. I don't have insurance so I'm hoping to take care of this problem without getting doctors involved. Are there foods that any of you recommend, other than prunes?

1] drink 1/2 gallon of WATER a day
2] eat a high fiber cereal every morning
3] eat at least one salad or raw veg, one fruit, and one cooked veg a day
4] walk one mile or more a day
5] in emergencies - take a Fleets phosphosoda[ ask the pharmacist - [ lie and say it's for your Grandma ] - cleans like a white tornado
PS: Colace is a stool softener. It will gum you up if you take it all the time.

OUCH! I am sorry! I had that once after surgery!
It was so bad, as a female. I was so swollen it pushed my interior female parts almost to the exterior!
SO, I did have health insurance, but I hate Hospitals!
I got children's suppository's. It took hours to start the process of elimination. It also took me actually putting my hand up the front half and pushing to the back, and screamingly so several times before I started to release the problem. A little at first, and then after several hours, steadily!
Surgery was a year ago, all those awful drugs are gone from my body. Thank Heavens, so is the problem!

Watermelon. Get a good sized watermelon and eat half of it or more in one sitting. Sure fire fix. You'll need to stay close to the bathroom as you will need multiple No.1 visits along with the explosive No.2. I now this from personal experience. Not due to constipation, but due to being too lazy to cook. To keep up your daily fiber intake, start eating Frosted Mini Shredded Wheat cereal or other high fiber cereal every morning. Cut out starchy foods. Hope it works for you.

Go to the pharmacy, buy a bottle of Magnesium Citrate...and follow the directions...you'll be cleaned out in no time! Mag Citrate is a bowel prep for surgery and is an over the counter constipation aid.

Get a doctor's advise, get some medicine, and/or drink plenty of Apple Juice. Fruit Juice helps bowel movements. Hope I could help. You'll be in my prayers.
