I have a friend that is a good Christian but that also practices some forms of Wicca. She likes being in nature and doing many Wiccan rituals in nature. She says that it makes her feel closer to God. Do you think that a person can do this? I've done some research and have found that many early Christians where considered mystics. Would that be the same thing? What's your opinion?

Sabrina H...what is your definition of mysticism? And if my friend does go to church and is a practicing Christian who follows Christ words, why would it be wrong for her to commune with God in nature?

She's not practicing Wicca, although she may be practicing Witchcraft, magic, mysticism or another set of beliefs.

Wicca is a religion.

Magic and Christianity are 100% compatible. The mystic Thomas Vaughan in the fifteenth century wrote a treatise called magica adamica explaining how magic, nature and the cycles were given by the Christian god to mankind so he would survive being cast from Eden.

She may call her rituals Wicca, but Wicca without the gods is not Wicca, and Christianity with them is not Christianity.

The early Christian "mystics" were very different. They believed things like "there is nothing outside of God" or "Everyone can be Christ." It had nothing to do with nature.

Native religions like Wicca were demonized by the early church in an effort to convert as many people as possible to Christianity. That's part of the reason there's such a strong reaction to it.

But Christianity is such a simple religion, I don't think you can really hold tenets of both.

Is there a limit on how many things you can believe? Can you really only believe in one thing? If that is so then you would have to choose whether to believe in Santa Clause OR the Easter Bunny. Otherwise you believe in more than one thing. For those of you who aren't open-minded enough to believe in the Clause or the Bunny, then consider God and Satan. How is believing in Jesus AND Wicca any different from believing in God and Satan. It is all about how open-minded you are. There is room for belief in multiple things. You say your friend likes to worship in nature. Where in the bible does it say nature is bad. The only thing that may be applied is worshiping false gods and idols. But how is worshiping different aspect of nature or performing different rituals for specific outcomes different than praying to a specific patron saint for a specific outcome. It's all good. People can worship and believe in whatever they want as long as they are not hurting others.

And witch and Satan worshiper are not even close to the same thing. Christians are probably closer to worshiping Satan than witches are.

WICCA is a form of Witchcraft but it can't have Christian properties. One can be a Christian WITCH though. Just not a Christian Wiccan. That's like someone saying they are a Jewish Christian.....

I'm a Neo-Wiccan, a Witch, and I believe that Jesus was a good and powerful man who was very connected to the Divine.

Personally I think you can believe in God and practice wicca at the same time. God said, not to worship any gods before him. #1 that tells me he acknowledges other gods do exist. #2 as long as you worship God first, the others second...you are breaking any laws or commandments.
Just my personal opinion. I also am of the same belief as your friend btw!

Yes you can believe both. Witchcraft is not particular to any religion (and she's probably practicing witchcraft, not Wicca, please try to get the terms straight) and so it can be incorporated into any religion. She probably believes her spells are prayers into which she puts more focus and intent. Just stronger prayers. It sounds like this path may be right for her. If Christian witchcraft makes her feel closer to the divine, that I wish all the more power to her. Blessed be. )O(

Of course! Many Wiccan rituals have nothing to do with magic or spell casting. They are simply forms of meditation or prayer rites. The greatest grimoire (spellbook) of all time was actually written by King Solomon, an important figure in the Christian Bible.

A person is not a Christian unless they have been Baptized in water and Baptized in the Holy Spirit (like in Acts) and committed their lives to God and Jesus ONLY.

God will not share with another "god" or "goddess" or whatever people have....nor can His Holy Spirit be within a person that is using satan's "spirits".

There were no "Christians" till after Jesus started His Ministry. The Old Testament was either Jews or the un-saved. Any other "religion" was NOT of God.

May you and your friend find Truth :)

Wiccans normally believe that there are other ways to God than Christianity, but the Bible teaches Jesus is the Only Way (John 14:6). And whilst some early Christians were mystics they were Christians and still believed in Christian doctrine.
Wiccans hold belief in nature as sacred and worthy of reverance, but only God is worthy of reverence because He, and only He, created nature and so to Him do we owe our worship.

I do somewhat of the same thing. I was raised Catholic, but I began to research Wicca and Magick, and found that something about it called to me (and no you ignorant toads, it wasn't the devil that was calling to me) and although I was brought up around christian morals, I like the Wiccan rituals and ideals aslo. I think that as long as she uses her Magick for the greater good, and she is not trying to harm anyone, she should do what she pleases if it makes her feel closer to god.
