We just got 2 miniature dachshund puppies. We got the female 2 weeks ago and got the male 2 days ago. The female is being really rough and picking on the smaller puppy. We can't tell if she's being mean or just trying to play way too rough with him. She bites at his neck and ears really hard until he yelps and pins him to the ground. He tries to bite back and growls and stuff, but he's much smaller and kind of sick from parasites.( lousy breeder...long story). Will the puppies start getting along and enjoy being together, or are we doomed?

Why did you get 2 puppies at the same time?

Get them both into obedience classes. Especially the female-she should be old enough by now, if you didn't buy her too young. By buying from an irresponsible breeder, yes, you could have issues with temperment.

I must say this before I start- Please don't get dogs from breeders or pet stores- they are the reason there are millions of homeless animals- and millions of euthanizations each year. Shelter dogs are just as gorgeous, loyal, and loving- and you could save a life.
Are you completely certain they are not play fighting- or asserting dominance? Dog's do like to figure out who's boss- the alpha dog. Behavior like this is quite common in dogs this young- but if you got the dogs from crappy breeders there will be some temperament and probably health problems. If you are certain this is not normal I would call in the professionals- and if you are not able to train a dog- then enroll both in obedience. I've never had to- but some people swear by it....

Dogs will often attack another dog if it is sick. The small one may just be the runt too which will bring on aggressiveness by the other dog. The other dog may be playing and given the fact that the other dog isnt up to par, may be overreactiong. The trick is to modify the other dogs behavior without making him resentful or jealous of the smaller one. Distraction, obedience and reward.

this happen to my friend and my advise is that if you hear the puupies yelp in pain or there are any bites cuts marks because of the dog put a muzzle on it cause my friends dog killed one of its own pupps so you need to be very extreamly careful.

I agree with Lisa if you bought from a bad breeder you will always have temperament issues . If you dont seek help by obdience classes . good luck .
