Bah, every answer here is wrong.. The question I see asked is if you WANT to be a cop, could you be deaf.. Sure.. even deaf people can want to be cops, firefighters, doctors, pilots.
Now if you are wanting to ask, Can a deaf person be a cop.. then in 999 out of 1000 times they could not be because of needing to hear as a job requirement. If hearing aids can be worn, it might be possible. This is talking street cop.. for someone that sits in the office and does secretarial work, pushes paper or maybe even translates via sign or lip reading, they might be able to find a spot.

I'm picturing them with a gun pointed at a fleeing victim and trying to sign, "stop or I'll shoot!"
I think being able to hear and speak clearing is a key element (hard to type on the radio and drive, other things like that).
It sounds like a fresh idea for an ADA discrimination lawsuit.

I would imagine they cant deny you the job because you are deaf, but you would not be able to hear people pulled over, calls for backup and stuff like that. It would be very difficult.

Most likely not; how can a cop function if he can't even hear the responses of the guy he's pulling over; or even worse, if he can't hear gunfire?

The police most likely would turn you down for "safety concerns" but no reason you couldn't be a desk support or lab person".
It helps to hear a pistol cock behind you in the dark!
