Well, most people are at least a little ashamed to publicly declare than an accident of birth is a good reason to hate a person, or deny that person the same rights as themselves.

Which is why there's such a concerted effort to deny that homosexuality has a biological cause - if it's not a "choice" they may have to grudgingly give up the hate (or at least not act it out in public).

That varies community by community. Racism has been an issue for a long time. Homosexuality has not really been issue for very long. Up until the 1980's most people just stayed in the closet.

Because ignorant people think homosexuality is a choice. You can't make fun of someone who's "born that way." So you can't tease the kid with Down Syndrome and you can't tease someone else for being black or brown or whatever. But you can usually get away with teasing someone for being gay or transgendered. This is because of ignorance. Gays are born gay. Blame it on the christian based values of society. christians have demonized homosexuality and so such sentiments permeate american society. There may be progress toward acceptance and equality being made now, but after how many years?

The term homophobia is a contrived word of the political left, and seen as useful by them to bludgeon Christians and conservatives into silence on the matter. The term "Christophobia" could just as easily be applied to those actively opposing the political right. In any case, it all results from the reality that the group that controls the language controls how a subject is discussed. The political left hopes that by pinning derogatory terms on those who stand against the homosexual normalization agenda that they can be painted as ignorant bigots.

Because homosexuals don't have a history of being beaten, raped and murdered. There are some, but they are the exceptions.

They aren't treated as they deserve, but non-white people have had it much worse, and still do.
