Do you know that when people used coal for heat, that some cities, like Butte, Montana, didn't see the sun all winter because of the air pollution? I am happy to pay for improved energy generation. People where I live have used wood as a winter fuel and wrecked the air too. Let's have some clean burning coal plants and other cleaner fuel generation.
That's where innovation and jobs come from. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Let's not go with corn to ethanol though, since it isn't efficient at all. That's a costly and wasteful process that is over-subsidized hugely.

I can't really tell if some CEO I've never met before actually believes in global warming or just sees opportunity. (It could be both, really.) What I can say is that belief does not determine truth. Whether global warming is true or not is completely independent of our belief in it.

I don't know. I would think it's out of need more than anything. Global warming is NOT profitable for mainstream energy companies. That's why many of them are trying to deny the problem or delay doing anything about it. Emission reduction will require profit cutting regulations. Ultimately global warming is a threat to a healthy economy and human civilisation for that matter, so no one wants to admit to a problem that is threatening their way of life, all of ours really.
But if we don't do ANYTHING about it, I'm convinced we'll all die.

Does it matter?
We NEED to develop renewable resources, and wind technology is mature enough to use. If claiming GW will shake the money loose to get the job done, I DON"T CARE.
But there will be repercussions for those who insist on lying to the People. They will personally suffer for crying wolf. Besides, carrots make much more sense than sticks when dealing with the People.

Global warming is a fact. Whether humans are the major cause is the point everyone is still discussing.

We should do what we can to conserve energy - for ourselves (energy costs money).
