JSO (juvenile sex offender) PO now for about 10 months. No major incidents so far. Most of the kids are more scared that the PO has the power to send them to jail. The most dangerous part of the job is going into the homes and neighborhoods of these kids not knowing what to expect.

The safety element of probation work depends on what type of probation officer you are. In Juvenile, we have:
INTAKE OFFICERS, who pretty much spend their time on the phone, behind a desk, or talking with minors who've been booked in JH and their families and school officials.
COURT OFFICERS, who conduct investigations and write reports at the Court's request. We compile all the information for the dispositional report (like a pre-sentence report in the adult world) and make recommendations for the disposition of the case. This is essentially a desk job with interviews and court appearances.
SUPERVISION OFFICERS have the most dangerous jobs at Juvenile. They are involved in day-to-day interaction with the children and their families. They visit the minor's at school, in the office, and at their homes. They conduct searches on the homes. They participate in other types of activities with groups of minors on probation.. like character building programs, Court-Community School field trips, etc... The more you're with the minor's in a non-secure environment, the more risky the job.

Yeah, the criminal parents of juvenile criminals won't ever be mad at you so don't worry about it.
