I'm visiting NYC for the 1st time and want to know how much to tip taxi drivers. Also, what is the best transportation to get from LaGuardia to Brooklyn?

20% of the fare is customary. You'll look cheap if you actually accept coins for change. From Laguardia to anywhere, the best bet is a cab.

I usually give no less than 1 dollar (small fare, less than $10) I'll give the standard 15 - 20 % otherwise. As far as not accepting the change I always take the change and then hand them back whatever tip I am giving them. Too many cab drivers here want to tip themselves to the change. If they do that the I don't give them anymore, which will a lot of times leave them with less than I would have normally given them.

I also base my tip on their knowledge of the streets and whether or not I think they are "taking the long way" to up the fare.

Taxi drivers expect to be tipped, usually around 15%. They have special gypsy curses they hurl at those who don't tip LOL

Depends on the fare. My general guideline: less than $10, round up the change (so if it's $6.30 round up to $7) plus $1. $10-$20 round up, again, plus $2 or $3.

15%-20% is customary

You can use public transportation if you're used to mass transit (some people don't find that convenient or 'enjoyable'), but it's cheap!

otherwise, you may want to go with door-to-door shuttle service:
