I know someone who hasn't really used a computer for very long and she needs a new computer. Should she get a Mac, which to me seems less complicated than Windows, or should she get Windows Vista?

Vista without a doubt or even XP, they are both extremely easy to grasp.

Im not knocking MACS quite the contrary, but when things go wrong things do tend to get a little complex.

A MAC is just as capable of going wrong as a PC so dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

Hope this helps.

The best answer is that Vista is at the stage of development that Mac was at about 10 years ago. Go for Mac - the computer does all the work, and is very easy to pick up as you go along. PCs are for geeks, Macs are for people. And the new Macs can run Window's programs anyway. So the best of all worlds is a Mac.

To me, it all boils down to features. Windows Vista has A LOT more features than Mac OSX, although Macs have a simple interface. I personally prefer PCs. If she wants a nice shnazzy interface I'd recommend Vista. It depends on what she's going to be using the computer for.

Summary, if it's for school, I'd recommend a PC. If it's for graphic editing, I'd recommend a Mac.

Manufacturers are still offering computers with XP on them. Try to find a store that either has these for sale or is willing to order one. Vista is DEFINITELY a NO-NO!!! Mac, well, since I've no experience with them, I can't comment.

A simple Linux Distro with the KDE Desktop environment looks a LOT like XP. I've heard of some people who've never used a puter being able to run Linux with KDE. Kubuntu or PCLinuxOS come to mind at present.

BTW: No matter WHAT OS y'all decide on be DOUBLE sure to get the CDs for it in case of software or hardware failure.

good luck!!!

Definitely the MAC, the new Vista is a pain in the butt and is still in the trial and error stage.

I would definately recommend Vista. I think Vista is a drop in performance and at this stage, compatibility from xP but the main change Microsoft has made was the user interface. It is now more modern and more accesible, and has tutorials and help pop-ups everywhere. Even if you haven't got a clue what to do in front of a desktop, if your English is half-decent Vista will teach you.

Vista is a dog. They brought it out with a lot of bugs and there is still a lot of software and stuff which it isn't compatible with. Get a MAC.

Mac will be way easier to learn if you have little to no experience with computers.
