my boyfriend's birthday is coming up this weekend and i don't know what to get him. For my birthday he took me to a Fall Out Boy concert and then shopping in Chicago, where he got me a diamond necklace. I am only 16 years old and i don't have like millions of dollars. He is 17 so i don't if that makes any difference. I want something to top his gift but i can't think of something amazing.

My first reaction is: Sweetie, don;t try to top his gift if you want a long term relationship with this young man. Men like to be the better 'gift-ers'.
But since I was doing similar things between the ages 16-25 (then I finally learned my lesson). How about putting up a sign: I love you ! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, over a bridge or in the woods somewhere, and then surprise take him there and surprise him with a smaller gift. Like a subscription to a magazine on his hobbies? This is generally relatively cheap.

Well the point of a gift should not be to out-do your boyfriend or vis versa - do what you think is the best and what he likes. Does he like sports? Take him to his teams baseball game...does he have alot of friends that he loves to hang out with? Throw him a surprise party and get him a smaller gift - it's the thought that really does count, if you do your best to get him something nice and meaningful he shoudl appreciate it - if you are totally stummped ask his family or close friends.

The best gift my g/f ever gave me when I was 17. Doesn't cost any money and I appreciated more than a new car I got for the birthday from my parents. But I can't say it here but the most of those who had it knows what I'm talking about.

Buy him ticket for the first home game of the chicago bears! Buy him a Brian Urlacher #54 jersey to wear to the game. That should cost you about 200 bucks. Oh yeah, buy yourself a ticket to go with him.

I would make it something personal. Anybody could give me a CD or DVD he likes. I know it's a cliche but if it comes from the heart, then he'll appreciate it all the more. Like music video slideshow of you guys together or something.

That's a shitty trap to be in. I had friends who every time it was time to do something special had the 'bigger better' mentality. That worked great for a little while, but ended in utter disappointment when they couldn't do more.
