I met Robby Gordon at a store in San Bernardino and talked to him for about ten minutes. I don't care what anyone else says about him, he's a helluva nice guy.

This happened a LONG time ago.... & I know he's not a Nascar driver, but I wanted to share this with my Nascar friends...
I was, 16 & at my very 1st job (not 1st day, though!)... as a waitress at the old L&K Restaurant & I ended up waiting on Al Unser Jr.
I did ask for an autograph... however, I don't know what happened to it. It maybe in a box in my mom's attic. Hmm! Good reason to go rummaging!! :o)
Thanks, this is a GREAT question!! :)
To answer... It is possible... I would say it would be easier during the off season, or off week. Only because they're at the tracks most of the week, if not out on promotional "tours".

At Darlington, there's a small restaurant right outside the gate of turn 3. Real small palce. Kind of hidden behind a souvenir stand. Drivers, and announcers, eat there all the time. Of course you gotta time it right, but i've manged to get a dozen or so autographs while drivers were heading in or heading out. I can't remember the guys name but the guy who runs that souvenir stand has been in that spot for many many years and he's told me more than a few times if someone famous was in there. If you go, know what's happening inside the track so you can gauge the time frame they would likely leave to get something to eat. Works for me all the time. Although Darrell Waltrip doesn't drive anymore, he loves eating at that place.

I haven't met a driver at a club or restaurant but I did run into a guy that used to be with Robert Yates Racing and also with Penske . His name is Sean Parker. He was there with his wife Tara(RIP) Tara had a transplant and not long after that she was killed in an automobile accident.I saw them in Atlanta in 96
I also ran in to Mike Ford and Barry Swift at a gas station in Charlotte .At the time they were on the #88 Dale Jarrett crew. The same day I pulled up next to Bill Ingle at a stop light, at the time was Ricky Rudd's c/c on the #10 Tide car . This was in 98.
Be for warned that when you are in Charlotte or that area for a race to keep your eyes peeled as you never know who you might run into .

Davie Allison at a truck stop in Washington state, Bill Elliott at the Coors Plant in Golden Colorado when he drove "The Silver Bullet" for them, and Benny Parson at A truck stop in Indiana. I was a cross country truck driver at the time.
