Paul thought woman should not wear jewelery--should not curl their hair--should wear a veil to cover their head--& be permanently ashamed of their lineage to that evil trollop Eve.
(1 Corinthians 11:5)( 1 Timothy 2:9-14).What have these outdated opinions have to do with Christ??

2 Timothy 3:16&17 says; "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
So,....ok, lets say U make an Appointment with the Dr. for an "Annular Exam" and when he comes in he is wearing Ear Rings, & is "Pierced" in several places wearing a sleeveless "T" shirt with his shorts down around his ankles showing way too many "Tats" dancing with his "I-Pod". Do U think Ur mental picture of Marcus Welby pushing a tube in U (where the Sun Don't Shine), will ever be the same, OR will U just accept that Ur "Image" is just "Outdated", Right??? Why are U calling Eve "that evil trollop", Scripture doesn't??? Scripture points out that Man is "Fashioned after God" & Woman is after Man. Why is it that U have "TWISTED" the Scripture and not Posted it here Word for Word??? Paul is speaking this "Advise" for women in attendance in church services so that there will be no chance of "Distraction" from the "Teaching"!!! Many "Religions" of the time were actually "Brothels" filled with "Vestal Virgins" dressed in this fashion for "Rent". Here Paul warns of Anyone using the way a Christian woman dresses as a "Stumbling Block" to Accepting Christ by "Association" to other "Religions" of the day. So, tell U what! Why don't U Post a set of "Morals / Ethics / Codes" as U think the Bibles are so Outdated??? OBTW, God gave Us "Free Will", so don't be Surprised after Posting them here that No Body Follows Ur "Morals / Ethics / Codes", and that people Still Kill, Lie, Steal, Abuse & Sacrifice Children, Practice Perversions etc. as they do now. So don't get Depressed, just keep writing Ur "Opinions", someone may care??? John

First you characterization of Paul's writings is inaccurate. 1 Corianthians 11: 5 says, "And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is just as though her head were shaved." It instructs women how to pray and prophesy (teach) in public, and is in context of Paul leaving the decision up to us to decide ("If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice--nor do the churches of God"), of men and women being interdependent ("In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God") and in context of women having authority over themselves ("For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have authority on her head"--as the Greek shows, the women is the one who possesses the authority). 1 Timonthy 2 9-14 says nothing about being ashamed of Eve, or even calling her a "evil trollop" rather Paul makes reference to Genesis 2-3 where Eve was created after Adam was given instuction on the what was forbidden and Eve's own statement that she was deceived. Rather than being a critique of Eve, this is more daming of Adam. Eve sinned because she was deceived--Adam knowlingly sin, something the Bible shows is always worse than unknowlingly sin.

What do these outdate opinions have to do with Christ? Christ taught that we are all accountable for ourselves.....just as Paul puts responsibility for a woman with that woman. Christ taught women, Paul indicates that women are to learn. Paul's teachings are consistent with Jesus'. Also, if we take Jesus' teachings out of context, we can make the same wacky statements about Jesus that people make about Paul.

Incidentally, what a woman wears has nothing to do with rape. Jesus said that if look at someone with lust, we should cut out our OWN eye.....He didn't (nor did Paul) say that women should cover up to avoid causing lust. Lust, like all sin, is born out of our own sinful nature and is not caused by others. Frankly, women could run around naked and that would still not be the cause of rape. The cause of rape is the rapist's sinful nature.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16
I don't think women are supposed to be ashamed because of Eve. It just makes sense that women not dress to draw attention to themselves. We'd have a lot less rapes if women would get the message. Women would have fewer problems with coveting, self-centeredness and pride if they would focus on more important things than their appearance. I'm not saying we should look like frumps, but a lot of us have gone overboard. Trying to look like a super model takes up a lot of time and energy that could be used in more important pursuits.

God has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This is Not because men are necessarily better teachers, or because women are inferior or less intelligent (which is not the case). It is simply the way God designed the church to function.
Men are to set the example in spiritual leadership – in their lives and through their words. Women are to take a less authoritative role. Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching or having spiritual authority over men.
This logically would include women serving as pastors / preachers. This does not make women less important, by any means, but rather gives them a ministry focus more in agreement with how God has gifted them.

Christians believe that "all" scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for instruction in righteousness. That being said we are also instructed to add line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, there a little to gain a true understanding of what lesson is being taught. Taking one or two lines from any where in scripture can leave one with an incomplete or incorrect understanding and I believe that is what often happens concerning some of Paul's writings.

You are wrong. He thought none of those things. He, like JESUS, hated immodesty, seduction, and such, but so did Peter. I do too.

No one that doesn't first learn the Teaching should read Paul. He taught the same Teaching, but constantly used unusual explanations to touch on far recesses of the Doctrine, which has been cause to poorly prepared readers heretically misinterpretting him, as even Peter said.

Actually, as for that idea that we are to add precept to precept, line upon line, etc., that was not commanded of GOD for the Spiritual, but was what HE said the unspiritual among HIS People were left to draw their incomplete vision of HIS Teaching and Law and Revelation from.

in the corinthian society, women showed submission to their husbands by wearing a veil. it seems that some of the women in the church were discarding their veils, something that only pagan temple prostitutes or other rebellious women would do. for a woman to come to church without her veil would be dishonoring to her husband, as well as culturally confusing. by the same token, for a man to wear a veil or a turban or to somehow have his head covered during worship was not culturally acceptable in corinth.

our culture today does not use veils or head coverings to indicate submission to authority. the roles of men and women have not changed, but the way we symbolize those roles changes with the culture

First of all, when you read the bible you have to accept the fact that everything that was written was inspired by God, so in essance God said it- indirectly. Now if you were to read that in its context you'd see that Paul wasn't speaking to everyone. Let me explain. In Leviticus 20, there's a whole list of do not's that Moses wrote to the children of Israel. Such as you cannot have tatoos well he specifically said markings or piercings. He said that because of the time which they lived in. If you notice, this was after they were saved from the egyptians, and that is exactly what the egyptians did, they marked their body and pierced it. So in essance Moses was telling them not to be following the Egyptians. Now with Paul he was doing the same thing, he was telling them not to follow fashion expecially if its not in line with your own culture. God Bless!!

I believe all of scripture is given by inspiration of God, not just the red letters. Paul was an apostle called by Christ. I don't have a problem with anything he writes. I take things in context and I read them with the discernment that God gives me. Sorry you seem so upset about it all.
