I've had Fibromyalgia for 35 years, long before they had a name for it. I understand what you mean about not wanting narcotics anymore. The newest medicine for the treatment of Fibromyalgia is Lyrica, it will leave you feeling very drugged. I tried it and didn't like feeling like that.

The number one thing I use for pain relief is deep tissue massage therapy. Nothing else gets rid of the pain so quickly. If you can have therapy on a regular basis you would find a change in your pain pattern.

I take anti inflammatory medication when needed and a mild pain medication as needed.

I take a good quality multivitamin twice daily, antioxidant powder and digested enzymes which help my body feel better.

I find chiropractic treatment helps with Fibromyalgia as well as acupuncture. You may want to try alternative treatments for pain relief.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Both my mother-in law and my grandmother have fibro. My mother-in-law has taken narcotics for it for years, she is trying to stray away from them. She went to a doctor recently and had something injected into her neck which relieved her pain for weeks at a time. Also she recently began taking a new drug, called Lyrica, anyway, this is the first drug specifically manufactured for Fibro, and she says it's working wonders. This new drug is advertised on TV. My grandmother uses a "pain patch". I think her case is significantly less severe, this method seems to work for her so far. There are some articles about emerging treatments at the site I listed as my source. Good Luck :)

Some doctors think that they are the same disease.

I have had fibro for over 12 yrs. I take Guaifenesin for my fibro. You have to learn how to take the med properly for it to work on fibro. Here is a book you need to get either from a library or you could get it at ebay or amazon cheaper than a bookstore......

It is not a cure and it is not a pain
med but it has allowed me to stop taking prescription pain meds. I used to take them constantly.
