It's called poor upbringing. I blame the parents. When I was growing up I knew better than to do such stupid and disrespectful things. My parents instilled respect in me and my siblings as well as a sense of knowing right from wrong so I just knew better without my parents having to verbally call my attention to every possible bad judgement call I might make.
Kids today have no respect for others as well as self respect and that comes from lack of mentoring......... again it goes right back to the parents!

NOw I can say when my brothers and I were growing up it was safer to play in the streets (there weren't many parks we could access) but we were at least smart enough to have a car look out usually me (I was the youngest) I'ld scream car and we would move before the car was on that part of the road.
As for the stupid kids now days their parents didn't teach them common sence that when a car is coming to move that the cars have the right of way.

I remember a few years ago, the older teens in my area (especially girls) had a habit of mincing across the road as slowly as possible, and deliberately in front of cars. This rebellious streak was a real pain and the urge to speed up sometimes was almost unbearable. Yes we have brakes little darlings, but we also have an accelerator. ha ha ha...

They all seem to think that they are 10 feet tall and bulletproof. You can just drive around them. I, being a little younger, and having kids from 5 to 14 years of age, see it a lot. They are either not thinking or listening to their iPods while talking on their cell phones and riding their skateboards to the mall. It will pass in time. Just let kids be kids.

Young people believe they are invincible.
This is nothing to do with unawareness. Just a slovenly attitude that is prevalent these days. The implication is more that they don't care about you than they have a death wish.
Anyway, I am pleased that you have children playing in the streets. There are so few of them where I live.

No more so than when I was a child.
Problem is, most of a generation actively ignored their parents and didn't learn. Now they are parents who don't know what to teach. They teach anyway, and you see the result. Kids that think they always have the "right of way", especially when they don't.

This is a bit naughty, but it works quite well...as you approach the little darlings, dip the clutch and rev the engine. That usually shifts 'em!
