That's the big, big, big question, isn't it? The bible is the only "evidence" of God.

It is proof of the ability of the human spirit to imagine about his world in a time before science.

Its proof of the different political agenda of the Hebrew tribes, hence the blindly obvious contradictions in the text.

Its proof of the how the small backwater tribe, living in the middle of three huge empires saw themselves, and adapted to their much more powerful adversaries.

It is historical, not as old as some parts profess, but still an important source of middle - eastern literacy.

Its also a good comparison source (to the orthadox histories) of the events that caused the fall of the Roman empire, and how Rome and Byzantium survived as a political force in the Orthodox and Roman Catholic church.

But its most important attribute, is the fact that it is a living record of how the Hewbrew tribes adopted much older stories and beliefs like Gilimensh epic, and the Devil into thiuer own canon after contact with other civilisations.

The Bible can be useful to prove certain historical points. As a trivial example, the fact that the Gospels mention synagogues in Galilee demonstrates that those mentionings are post Hadriatic. Other than this type of thing, no.

Are you meaning traditionally accepted proof of the contents actually happening? Of course not. Can the events be corroborated from other contemporary works or artifacts? No, except Josephus, an enemy during/near the time of Christ. However, being fair, we cannot dismiss the evidence that the teachings of Christ and the teachings of the OT have had dramatic effects on the lives of people and societies for the better. People's character and societies have been transformed and advanced. Judging fairly, we cannot dismiss this footprint which indicates something of great significance in this collection of books and letters happened, and that those books and letters are based upon something significant.

There are some historical truths, about Pharaohs and the big flood, which was probably a tsunami. It is mostly just a story though. A sign of the times, and highly superstitious. If it helps murderers feel better to believe in it though, before they are executed what is the harm right?

It's not! Wonderful book, with a comprehensive basis of history. But also full of mythology, wonderful imagination, better propaganda then even Goebbels could come with, and also some downright porkies. The biggest one being that it was 'inspired' by god! Like those who believe that the Book of Genesis was written by Moses.

I don't think we should look to the Bible for proof. If we are seeking, we should look for understanding. And, we don't have to depend on the Bible. Jesus taught that we can reconnect with our Creator, just by asking..........just ask the questions you want to know about, and open your mind.

The open minded part is essential, because spiritual perspectives are so different than human ones. Set aside what you think you know or have been taught, and be ready to allow yourself to be taught. Ask the questions.......and the answers will come.

The bible isn't proof of anything. One of the foundations of Christianity is faith. That means we don't need or even want proof. I challenge anyone to disprove the existence of God though.

It's not proof that you ask for it's faith. I believe in the bible and in God. I've never been offered proof except for what I feel when I live my Christian life. The proof is in the eye of the beholder.

The Bible was written by Solipsists, for Solipsists, and has no meaning for those who know that the basis of reality is the physical realm.
