They are liars, no more and no less... I hope. It is a disgrace, I agree with you there.
I see them as thinking their intelligence and discussions skills aren't good enough to be seen as powerful on their own, so they feel the need to prop themselves up and add legitimacy to their statements by saying "I am/was a soldier so you anti-war people shut up right now that's an order".
It's sad, but people do it.

Narcissism, Egomaniacs who knows. I have met plenty that can lay it on thick. Mental illness does not mean you are not functional. They, in many cases believe what they say. Criminal behavior is similar. Some see violence, robbery, burglary etc as justified.
Unless they are trying to get services they should not or claiming to be a MOH recipient, showing up at events in uniform, making speech's to heck with them. You are wasting your time and energy over nothing.
A quick test is to ask the name of their DI. If they say they forgot they are full of crap! Most guys can describe them to a tee 40 years later.

It casts a poor light on those who have served. There are also those who have served, and lie about medals/award received, I feel they are both in the same pool. If one has not earned the medal, etc then do not claim you have.
Those of us who have or are currently serving are usually pretty strict about this sort of thing for good reason.

If caught ... they should be made to wear a sign that tells everyone that they are posers and forced to do time at a VA hospital where they come see first hand the real warriors and the harsh effects of what it takes to be a Soldier,Sailor,Airman,Marine and Coast Guardsman. Apologizing to each one along the way. Yeah...thats' what I'd do.

It degrades the honorable service of those who actually HAVE served; in any case, it's also illegal to impersonate or pose as military, or claim to have service or awards when you don't. If you turn those two assbags in, they can be prosecuted for it--and rightly so.

Scum... It's always funny to call these type of people out on their lies. Even military members who embellish their service. Those are the worst of the worst.

Make them do a 18 month tour in Iraq, alone, without a gun but in a uniform.

People who lie about who they are (in any capacity) have steep self-esteem issues. Just disregard them.

I think it is BS. I've known at least one person who has done that. I think they're desperate for attention...it's pathetic!
