My neighbour is going in for surgery tomorrow as a last ditch effort to get rid of her cancer (ovarian cancer). She's gone through 5 rounds of chemo already and this is pretty much the last thing she is willing to try before giving up.
I was thinking of getting her flowers but that doesn't seem like enough. What's a good thing to get/do for her before she goes in for surgery to let her know I'm thinking of her?

I think the flowers are a lovely idea. Plus the already mentioned note to her with a positive message. You could arrange home made meals to be frozen for when she gets home so that she doesn't have to worry about cooking, etc after surgery. If you are able..be there with her before the operation or after...just sit there and keep her company. That alone makes such a difference..to have someone there holding your hand or to just listen too.
If you and your neighborhood is a close one..maybe each neighbor could take a turn with the meals or all of you sign a card or poster filled with healing messages to hang in her room. Being in the hospital is such a hard time and I think waiting to hear the prognosis will make it even tougher I think..doing whatever you can just to let her know that you care ..however big or small..will make her feel better. Trust yourself and your friendship in knowing what will be just right. You could just ask her to by saying "joan", I know this is such hard time for you right now and I want to help..is there anything at all that you need or something that could make this time a bit easier for you? Good luck and I think that you are awesome to want to do something for her. God bless !

A hand written letter of support (and some heart stickers, etc) and tell her you'll be there for her. The most important thing for a cancer patient is affirmation of someone's support. Cancer is a lonely disease and makes you feel isolated and hopeless; telling her you're her friend will mean more to her than anythning. A green plant would be good too; green for life.

flowers would be lovley. Even though she is going through this horrific time - she still has the same brain. If she loved getting flowers before her illness, then you can be sure she will appreciate them now! Just knowing you have taken the time and effort will be enough. If your still not convinced, then a tiny angel pin badge would be a nice touch too. Good luck to her...hope this one works.

Flowers are always good to help keep spirits up after surgery.

Another idea that suited me, I had all sorts of positive thoughts/affirmations etc printed on pretty stationery around my room and in a folder so whenever I was feeling down there was soething to help lift my spirits.

Never overlook the power of positive thoughts!
