it's true. (except for the virus thing).
it's true in that you can only install it onto one computer at a time, since it 'phones home' to microsoft with your product key to be activated. trying to activate another installation of office using the same product key will obviously be easily flagged by microsoft's servers as a duplicate installation.
provided you keep your receipts and everything you get with office so you can prove you legally bought it you won't have any trouble in installing and activating office on the machine again if you wipe your machine or it's ruined by a virus.
it's a bit of a grey area as to whether you can get away with having older versions that don't require activation installed on multiple machines, microsoft aren't strangers to building into their updates little 'tools' that check product keys of different software to see if shared product keys are being used so technically they could check every microsoft program they've ever released - i doubt they'd check anything older than office 2000, but it'd still be illegal to install on more than one machine.

I don't know about Microsoft office but I bought software from Tiger Direct for $69 and down loaded it and save it on CD for some reason I had to format my computer and when I tried to install the software all I got was can't connect to server, I learned a lesson if I want to buy a software I have to buy it on CD or DVD not to download it.

To me this sounds incorrect because I have the original disk ( MS Office 2000) and the key codes and have loaded it many times.

If you install the program, and you wipe it. You call Microsoft, they ask you to confirm, then give you a bypass code. Otherwise it goes into 30 day trial mode.
Done this with a number of reinstalls of Windows on my workstation.

No. It can be loaded only on one computer, but can be reloaded many times to the same machine. There is a limit, but it is quite high.

If you have the original disc, you can reload it. If you don't have the original disc or it's security code, you cannot reload it.
