How do you know if a guys is flirting with a girl?

There is this guy in my class and I want to know if he likes another girl. How can I tell if he likes another girl? He is shy so I dont think he would do anything big, Im trying to figure out if it is a "just friends" thing or not. So..what are subtle things that he would do to her if he liked her?
