no license means no insurance,

Now I am talking about those who have crossed our sovereign borders illegally, and If it didn't hurt anyone I would be inclined to agree with you; however I believe it hurts many people.
How does it hurt.
1) By giving an illegal alien a license it provides a sense of legitimacy to their status. Thus providing even more of an incentive to move here.
2) Just because they have a license does not mean they would actually purchase insurance, something required by law here in California. So again by giving them a license it gives them a sense of legitimacy and more of them will be on the road, and by statistical analysis alone it means they will be involved in even more accidents. With no insurance who is responsible
3) It has been shown time and time again, that those who have come here illegally rarely make an attempt to assimilate into our culture, they tend to keep there own. In a culture of Machoism it is with pride that they drive while intoxicated. At least right now if they don't have a license they think twice because they think if they are arrested they might get deported. if you give them that piece of paper that deterrent is removed.

As to your argument the they are going to drive whether they have a license or not, you could use the same argument for gang bangers, they are going to steal and kill any way, so just because they kill someone without a license that makes them a criminal. Well that sounds really messed up to me.

Please remember, by crossing our border without proper authorization (i.e. illegally) that automatically makes them a criminal. They broke the law therefore they are criminals. driving without a license is just one more act of disregard to our laws to add to the list of criminal acts they have commited.

I live near Kansas City, KS, and up until about 7 years ago, they allowed illegals to have licenses.

I used to translate for hispanics, and went to a few of those drivers tests. The patrolmen who gave the driving test were at their wits' end.....they would tell the immigrant to turn on their left turn signal, and they didn't understand. The patrolman would say "How do you expect to drive safely if you can't follow a simple instruction in English?"

They also were obligated to take a written test, and without translation, would NEVER pass it. How can someone drive on these roads without being able to read a sign?

I think we should get every illegal's fingerprint with photo (biometrics). Illegals are illegal because they are undocumented, which means they use fake ssn's, and fake NAMES, and fake addresses. The key is biometrics.

It'll cost us a pretty penny, but if the person commits a crime, they won't able to become a resident EVER.

To an illegal, it doesn't matter if they have a license or not. If they lose their license, they will drive without it anyway. Fingerprinting EVERYONE is the key to keeping track of these people.

I personally know dozens of illegals who have commited major crimes, and have been deported, and have come back over the border, only to be deported again because someone checked their FINGERPRINT. If it wasn't for that, they would just change their name and fake ssn, and move to another city, and start over.

You should differentiate your meaning of "Immigrant" - do you mean ILLEGAL or LEGAL?

If the license is merely to prove that a person has passed a proficiency test in operating an automobile, anyone should be able to get one.

However, most states (Mexifornia for one) use the driver's licenses (DL) as the primary means of identification and proof of residency and citizenship in that state. You need either a state ID or a state DL to register to vote, to open a bank account, and do almost anything that requires some form of state-recognized identification. In this case, LEGAL immigrants should be authorized to get an ID or DL if they have the proper papers. ILLEGAL immigrants should NOT.

States should recognize foreign driver's licenses if there is a question of the state license validating legality or citizenship. There is also the option of an immigrant obtaining an "international" driver's license, which is honored in all 50 states.

I am a Latino living in LA but I strongly believe they should not receive licenses because LA is packed enough as it is plus driving is a privilidge which should be reserved to those legally here. I support giving immigrants working permits which should be renewed and reviewed every 4 years.

And IN CALIFORNIA you do not need a Social Security Number in order to buy an insurance policy.

Immigrants? Sure. If they can prove that they're capable and that they understand the laws, why not?

Illegal immigrants? Nope. Not at all. Driver’s licenses are issued by the government and are used as legal identification cards. Illegal immigrants are not legal citizens, and should not receive government issued identification cards. As illegal immigrants, they are not citizens of the US, and therefore can’t legally be citizens of the town, city or state of which they are illegal squatters. Therefore, they don’t have the right to a driver’s license. They can drive in America using a foreign driver’s license. If that expires, then they should return to their country of origin to renew it. If they decide to further break the laws of the country that they have illegally emigrated to, then when they’re caught they can be deported.

Part of being a citizen is respecting and obeying the laws of that country. If a person violates the laws by illegally crossing the border, violates the laws by not paying taxes, and then further violates the laws by driving without a license and without insurance, I fail to see why this person should be allowed to stay.

These folks assumedly left their country of origin for a “better life”. If this includes being a criminal, then I don’t want them here.

antis will tell you all kind of stupid answers , but the truth is they will drive anyway , and when the congress decide not to give drivers license to illegals they puts us all at risk , they though it was going to stop the illegals from coming but the gun backfired , and now we see more accidents caused by persons with no knowledge of driving basic rules , or even what the signs means . and it is not their fault but the congress idiots who ruled against. we all suffer the consequences.
so the answer is YES THEY NEED A DRIVERS LICENCE PERIOD. we are sharing the roads with "blind" people for calling it somehow.

Immigrants get driver licenses by the legal means, you may be asking if illegal aliens should get a driver's license, in my opinion NO, no license for illegals.

In CA you need to have auto insurance or you cant get a license. You need a SS# to buy the policy. Therefore giving the...ugh Its just easier to call you a stupid poosy.

I have an insurance policy. They asked me for my SS#. You do not sell insurance. Ony at the mexinsure places where temporary and long-term policies are offered do they overlook that for Visa/green card purposes,

Driving is a privilege, not a right. Illegal criminal aliens should have no privileges in this country. In my State, in order to get a driver's license you have to prove you are insured. They wouldn't be able to get insurance without a social security number. I see no benefit in giving the illegals the privilege to drive....
