My father and myself have asked this question after watching 'The Departed' and there is one scene with a nun drinking beer (or so it seems). I know nuns can smoke, but are they allowed to have a pint?

Yes, they can and they do, lol! It's kind of a joke with me and my catholic friends. Also, if you've ever been to a catholic wedding reception, the priest is usually just as liquored up as everybody else!

of course they can, my great-aunt was a nun and she always drank beer with her pizza, alcohol is not forbidden in the catholic church, even for clergy
