Of course not. The priests who have been part of the scandals constitute an extreme minority within the Church, and have nothing to do with the thousands of good priests who are doing their jobs correctly. The Church is also taking strong steps to cull out bad priests. Additionally, research proves that the majority of pedophiles are straight, not gay. So even if a priest were gay, it doesn't necessarily follow that he would also be a pedophile.

You're confusing being gay with being a pedophile. They're not the same thing.
And a very small percentage of Catholic priests have been revealed to be pedophiles. What makes the whole thing so terrible is that church leaders knew about the abuse and covered it up to avoid a scandal rather than protect the children.

That's a very blanketed statement, and like most, it's not always the case. First, there is a HUGE difference between pedophilia and homosexuality. In many cases, a pedophile is someone who feels much less intimidated sexually by a young child than he or she does a person his or her own age. This person may find comfort in someone who has the same amount of sexual maturity that they do. Specifically, in the case of priests, they may seek out children as sexual partners because they can be easily manipulated in to not telling anyone of the debauchery. This doesn't mean that all priests or religious figures have the same disorder, it is just always shocking because of the amount of hypocrisy associated with it. Sadly, pedophiles can not help that they are attracted to children but to take the innocence of a child is unforgivable.

Actually the number of priests who have committed the abuses you're refering to is statistically insignificant. It doesn't seem that way because the media singles out that Catholic church. In reality it happens just as much if not more in other churches and secular organizations.

Almost none are. Catholic priests have the lowest incidence of sexual abuse of any Christian clergy and even less than school teachers.
